What's the cheapest electric company in Texas?

What is the cheapest (but still good) electric company to go with in the Houston Texas 77036 area?

  • We are moving to Houston Texas in a few days in the 77036 area, I have looked online at all the different electric companies and am still confused, lol. I was wondering what company most others go with? We are a family of 4 moving into a 2 bedroom apt and are on a fixed income so cheapness is a necessity. Would greatly appreciate any advice!!

    I changed from Reliant to Amigo and have been happy so far. Reliant was 11.2 cents per KWH & Amigo is 8.9. Have you checked the http://www.powertochoose.org site? Try it and enter your ZIP code as different areas can have different pricing. Also, read the contracts carefully. Some companies require direct billing from your bank account, some have $500 early termination fees, etc. Not that there is anything wrong with that but just be sure you know what you are agreeing to. I think most companies on that site are just as reliable as Reliant.
