Is it expensive to live in Newport, OR?

Which area is better to live? Newport, TX or Cleveland, TX?

  • I and my husband already have a small bungalow in Pasadena and thinking about moving away from the city a little so we could get a bigger place that we could afford. (We only have budget up to 200K for the house) So far we were torn between Newport and Cleveland. I and my husband think Newport is great but my in-laws said Cleveland is much better as it much more peaceful. We have been living abroad since 2002 and my in-laws are living in our Pasadena house now. So we don't have much idea about what is it like over there. We are planning to move back to the US within 5 years time. I personally thought that Cleveland is just too far from the city as my husband is going to pursue a job at Ellington Air Force base when we got deployed back. Can you give us any advice please? Thank you

  • Answer:

when you say Newport Texas, do you mean the neighborhood outside Crosby or the actual town up in north Texas? EDIT- Newport is very close to the local Walmart & Kroger, & the schools are good. With the new expansion of the Crosby Freeway (Hwy 90) all the way to I-10 access to Houston is very fast. Crosby/Newport is a safe area, crime has never been that high. The only thing you might see is a little racial tension because as far back as I can remember the Mostly white population of Crosby/Newport & the mostly black population of Barrett Station have just got along because they share the stores that stretch between the two towns. When it comes to your budget I can't tell you anything but can call a local realtor about that. You may have to settle for a home in old Crosby which has the same school district & low crime. a local realtor: http://www.bonniebutler.com/ Crosby website: http://www.crosbytx.us/ Crosby ISD: http://www.crosbyisd.org/

Newport, haha!!! That's the haunted subdivision that was on Unsolved Mysteries for the Black Hope Curse. I love that subdivision and am trying to get my husband to move out there but he's scared. Notice how all the homes are SO cheap?! Its haunted/cursed they say. Crosby is the best, love that place. Beats Houston by far. Cleveland is more peaceful, small. You might get more rural land/bang for your buck but its dirty. My Grandparents had their farm out there for years and I loved it.
