Camp grounds in the Houston Area?
-
My girlfriend and I would like to go camping one weekend, maybe another couple to if they'd like a little weekend get away. Anyone aware of some camp grounds near the Houston area? No where too outdoorsy. I had in mind cabins, indoor plumbing, lakes, etc. I do not know ANYTHING about camping or boy scouting etc. so I have no intentions on pitching tents, starting fire with two rocks, or anything like that. I had in mind a cabin in the woods WITH running water, showers, bed, etc. If anyone knows of a Camping area in the Houston area that feels like camping but without being completely at the mercy of the woods please let me know, and include a websight if they have one. And possibly a price per couple would be nice too.

There aren't any state parks nearby that offer cabins. The closest I know of would be Lake Somerville. However, if you can bring yourself to "rough it" a little bit there are more options. Huntsville State Park is very easy to get to from Houston & is a nice park. They offer hiking, mountain biking, swimming, fishing, boat rentals (canoes, kayaks, etc.), nature programs for kids, horseback rentals, and more. There are indoor restrooms and showers throughout the park for your convenience. You can rent a pop-up trailer if you really need air-conditioning. Although at Huntsville there is tons of shade, as the park is situated in the Sam Houston National Forest. Also, try Reserve America. They can give you rates and availability of all types of campsites. There is even a search feature that allows you to search camps by amenities. Good luck and remember to enjoy yourself!!

None of the state parks have what you are looking for. Check up around Lake Conroe. You know, just rent a hotel room. It may not be in the woods, but it has what you are looking for. Honestly, dude... what you're asking for is NOT camping.

http://www.almostheavenrvresort.com/ I've been going here since I was small. It's has all the wilderness feel of camping yet you have... bathrooms, showers, a store, laundry room. They only thing is that they don't ave cabins so you will have to use a tent if you don't have an RV, but don't fret.... the tent spaces are available with electricity hook ups.
