What is the best way to go to the TX Motor Speedway?

What's the best way to go from Houston Internation Airport to Austin, TX?

  • I'm flying into Houston at night and want to go to Austin then ideally, or early next morning. Are there any shuttles or Greyhound stops at the airport that I can use?

  • Answer:

Since you are already at Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH), you could take one of 11 daily flights that Continental Airlines flies from IAH to Austin (AUS) with the earliest flight leaving at 7:40 am and the last one departing IAH at 10:55pm. On Saturday, Continental has 8 daily flights with the earliest at 8:40 am and the latest at 9:10pm. On Sunday, they have 10 daily flights with 8:40am flight being the earliest and 10:58 pm the last flight to Austin. If you are staying overnight, there is a Marriott hotel at the airport and there are plenty of other hotels that offer shuttle service to/from the airport.

Why didn't you book your flight all the way through? Austin does have a full-sized airport that even handles international flights. If at all possible, rebook your flights. You can catch a shuttle to one of the Greyhound stations in town, but there is no Greyhound station at Bush Intercontinental Airport. You have to catch a cab to the Houston Northwest Greyhound station. You can get a bus to Austin at 5PM, getting to Austin at 9PM. The fare is $37. I checked the Greyhound Humble (pronounced "UMbull") station, and it does not go to Austin, but is right next to the airport, so that's no help. You're better off flying to Austin... and unless you are coming from Paducah or someplace with a windsock and a cow pasture for an airport, you should be able to get a near direct flight (one stop at worst). Re-book your flight. Oh, and the Continental one-way flights are $110 from Houston to Austin.

Hop on Southwest Airlines at Houston Hobby Airport - it should take about 25 minutes!

Rent a car. There is one-way rental from National. And if u ever have to go back to Houston for the return fight, u can drive and stop by at all those small Texas towns along the way. Learn something about Texas besides Austin and Houston.
