Is Houston, Texas a good place for a muslim to relocate at?!?
-
Hey guys, what's up? FAMILY BACKGROUND: So let me tell you some details, My mom is Saudi, my dad is half Egyptian and half American... He has both citizenships, well he was actually born in Cairo to fully Egyptian parents but he moved to the U.S. at 13 years old, so he got the citizenship. Well, I want to move (thinking about) moving to Houston with my SINGLE-mother, my parents divorced recently and I thought relocating would be a nice change for my mom (living with her now), also because I am graduating next summer from high school and I want to attend University of Houston and also as you guys know that it hasn't been the best year for Cairo and there is a huge problem with safety now. So I think this is the perfect time for relocating (well, technically we will move next summer) and I know its too soon for asking but I just like planning stuff so I don't get surprised and I don't like picking stuff at last minutes. So I thought of relocating to Atlanta, Georgia but my father is living there now (since the divorce) and I don't think my mom would like that...I know Atlanta is huge but also I didn't like the universities there, too expensive and I just love University of Houston ( good ranking, great tuition-very affordable and I got some friends there!) So, I just love everything about Houston! Weather, atmosphere, heard of the diversity and got friends that relocated there! Bottom line its perfect for me! BUT JUST ONE PROBLEM! I heard Houston has many Muslims, does anyone know a population? How do people think of Muslims in Houston? Do they hate/dislike them? Do they like them? Indifferent? This is a very important part since I am like the half Saudi half Egyptian Muslim girl! Oh, one more thing! If it will make any different I speak fluent English, even better than Arabic, I struggle in reading Arabic yet love reading English ( because I was raised in San Francisco, California lived there for about 6 years and lived at Atlanta, Georgia for about a year and a half) Even when I came back to Saudi (for 2 years) I went to an American school, but I learnt Arabic in Saudi when I was 7 and a half years old then lived for a year and a half at London, UK and finally our family decided to reside in Cairo, Egypt and I was then like about 11 or 12 ( where I started speaking actual GOOD ARABIC) So just when we started to settle, we had to relocate but this time for good! So please guys answer this question its my chance of finally living in ONE place for the rest of my life not move every other year! :D Oh, Please tell me some info about Houston, Texas I've searched a lot about it (spent hours browsing on the internet) also, i've only been there once, and I thought getting some info from natives, people who lived/ is living there would be better before actually moving, its even more reliable from the internet! :D THANKS GUYS! I know I write/talk a lot, even had that problems with short essays, haha sorry I did it again! Sorry :$ :D I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!

Answer:
Ok, I'm a Sacramento, California native, and moved to H-Town, as Houston is called, almost five years ago. I don't like saying too many personal things in this public a venue, so if you don't mind, email me through my profile here at Yahoo! Answers, and I'll speak more freely. Don't worry, Houston is a good place to live. It does have a large Muslim community. There are those rough elements who like to cause trouble in the summer, but racism is not a big problem. Within 2 hours of Houston there are a lot of entertainments, and Houston has a very large cultural segment for entertainment, huge art community, and so much more. Since you want to attend the U of Texas, you will be in the right place to do that. If you would like an escort around H-Town to help you find things (believe me, new people here need that. The guy who designed the streets was nuts!), I up for that when you get here. Just let me know.
