Anyone know any good local Hawaii music?

  • This is my second try questioning it so be sure you answers it right and read it right. The first idiot answer it and told me all this music thats in hawaiian -_-. I meant local like raggae and all that genre music that artist sing too. I heard this music once and the singer was sean paul- oma ye(idk how to spell but it was part of lyrics. And another song is( the only party of the lyrics that i remember was "dance......fire"( pronounce in song was fy ye). I would appreciate if you name all the popular music in hawaii thats local(not in hawaiian music) example like the guy sang called Over the Rainbow but it wasnt raggea. Btw i dont live in Hawaii i live in north dakota :D. Name the Artist and the song name

  • Answer:

Many people that live outside of Hawaii think of Hawaiian Music as Don Ho favorites like Tiny Bubbles and the soothing sounds of the steel guitar. If this is all you know about Hawaiian Music, you are missing some great music. Hawaii probably has more musical artists and entertainers per capita than most other states and countries. Music is an integral part of the Hawaiian culture and is expressed in many forms including: Hapa Haole - These are typically songs written in English about Hawaii that are popular on Waikiki, in Lu'aus, and in American movies. Slack Key - Unique Hawaiian Guitar Style with 'slacked' or loosened strings Steel Guitar - Probably the most recognized style of Hawaiian Music Ukulele - Popular instrument that has been an important influence on Hawaiian Music Falsetto - Popular vocal style (We recommend Dennis Pavao and the Ho'opi'i Brothers) Jawaiian - Hawaiians have taken the Raggae sounds from the Caribbean and added a unique Hawaiian sound to it. Contemporary - Popular sounds of today often with a mixture of Hawaiian and English Lyrics. This style started to become very popular in the 1970's. Traditional -Hawaiian Lyrics, typically with Ukulele, Guitar, or Steel Guitar Chants - An integral part of the Hawaiian culture that is often merged with many of the different types of Hawaiian Music Many artists combine these forms of music, sometimes even in the same song. Here's a list Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Facing Future (A 'must have' classic from 1993) (Includes Somewhere Over The Rainbow) Brothers Cazimero - Best of Vol. 1 Hapa - Hapa (Big Hoku winner from 1994) Keali'i Reichel - Kawaipunahele (One of the most popular Hawaiian Albums of all time) The Gabby Pahinui Hawaiian Band Vol 1 (Gabby is the thought of as the greatest Slack Key player of all time) Makaha Sons - Ke Alaula (Beautiful harmonies) Keola & Kapono Beamer - Honolulu City Lights (Top Contemporary Album from 1970's) Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau - Ho'oluana Sunday Manoa - Guava Jam Sunday Manoa - Cracked Seed Gabby Pahinui - Gabby (Brown Album) Keali'i Reichel - Lei Hali'a Waimea Music Festival (Live 1970's Concert with top entertainers of the last 30 years) George Helm - A True Hawaiian (Unique falsetto and Moloka'i guitar stylings) Peter Moon - Cane Fire Hawaiians are very proud of their heritage, culture, language and music. I am sure many found the wording and attitude of your question very offensive, but then we are are also understanding and this is how we all learn. Enjoy our music.

there are two hawaiian favorites you should check out: Hapa and The Makaha Sons Hapa is 2 guys, they play regularly in downtown honolulu. They sing both english and hawaiian songs, do covers too -- they even covered U2. the "somewhere over the rainbow" cover was done by Israel "Iz" Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole. sadly, he died back in '97.

I would answer but you're rude. Try rephrasing your question in a NICE way and maybe you'll get more responses. Oh, and learn to spell. It's 'reggae,' not raggae or raggea.

It's reggae. And the song is called "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Iz. The local music is a mix of both locally based bands and other groups that don't have roots in Hawaii. An example of someone who's big in Hawaii but isn't local is Bob Marley (all of his songs are great). (Some) local groups (with some songs) are the following -Ekolu ("Stuck on You," "She's Music To Me," "Just One Night," "Shores of Waiehu," "What She Really Needs") -Natural Vibrations ("Never Never," "Freedom Fighter," "Put A Little Love," "Hot Like Fire," "Okana Road") -Kolohe Kai ("Cool Down," "Pakala Waters," "Ehu Girl") -Katchafire ("Who You With," "Hold On") -Opihi Pickers ("Victim," "Think Twice," "Old Fashioned Touch," "Beautiful Girls") ...my bad. Katchafire is from New Zealand, but again, pretty popular in Hawaii.
