Where should I spend 5 nights in Southern Italy?

Hawaii? 8 nights, More to spend at Oahu or Maui for 5 year anniversary?

  • Okay folks, surprising my wife for 5 year anniversary to Hawaii. Little confused as to where to spend more time at? Initially i was going to do 3 nights Oahu & 5 nights Maui, but getting mixed opinions from different people. We dont like to just sit at a beach and do nothing, we like to see places and do stuff. So is it better to do 4 nights at Oahu & 4 nights at Maui?

  • Answer:

I happen to love Oahu...but I don't mind crowds either...depending on what you enjoy Oahu and Maui offer alot individually...on Oahu so much centers around Waikiki Beach...Surfing...Sunning...Outrigger Canoeing...People Watching,Parasailing,Jet-Skiing,Shopping up and down Kalakaua Ave. and at The Ala Moana Shopping Center as well as the Flea Market at Aloha Stadium...Hanging out at Dukes on the Beach...Catamaranning etc...there is also alot of Night-life and Clubs on Oahu that don't close down until I believe 4 a.m.you can also go to Pearl Harbor or drive to Hanauma Bay (where Elvis Presleys movie "Blue Hawai'i" was filmed) and over to the North Shore. If you like Sea Creatures there is "Sea Life Park"...so there is alot to do besides just laying on the beach. Maui is more layed back but is Beautiful and alot of fun...my kids and I spent 10 days on Oahu and 11 on Maui last July/August...Maui has the Fabulous Drive to Hana...Horse-Back riding..Scuba,Snuba,Snorkelling,Zip-Line tours, hanging out and shopping/eating at Lahaina and Whalers Village...so you see it's your choice which sounds better to you? Aloha A Hui Ho.

I think your first choice was about right. There are many things to do on both Oahu and Maui, but there are nearly a million people living on Oahu, and the traffic is fairly gnarly. You can get stuck in traffic on Maui, too, but Maui is bigger than Oahu in area and has 1/7 the population! In five days, you could never eat at all the good restaurants on Maui, but the cuisine in Honolulu is more diverse. Just as you'll probably want to spend a day on the Road to Hana, I would spend a day driving around the island of Oahu. Take H-1 east until it becomes Kalanianaole Hwy. just passed Kahala Mall, take Kalanianaole Hwy. over towards Hanauma Bay. If you get up at 3 AM with jet lag, you can go snorkeling early in the morning before the sunscreen slick forms! Drive on around Makapuu, spend some time playing in the salty waves at Waimanalo or Kailua. Eat lunch in Kailua or Kaneohe. Go see Byodo-In in the Valley of the Temples. Stop at Kualoa Beach Park for some photos. Drive on past the Turtle Bay Hilton, and you'll be on the famous North Shore. The "surf" may be "like glass" in the summer, great for snorkeling, but surf will be at Waikiki then, maybe. Eat dinner in Hale'iwa (House of the Great Frigatebird), then drive down central Oahu between the mountain ranges, past the former pineapple fields and military towns, until you're back in Honolulu.

8 nights is not enough if you're flying from the U.S. Make it two weeks. You could spend an entire week on any one island. Get off Oahu as soon as possible, choose Maui or Kauai. Maui is a bit more receptive to mainlanders, but Kauai is nice too.

I stay 7 night in Maui and there's no sufficient! There is the volcano, the sea white, red, black, sugar. The forest, the whale... My experience is unbelievable!!

Spend as little time on Oahu as you can... all of the other islands are MUCH better.
