Where are the best summer waves in Hawaii?

Summer job in Hawaii Summer '08?

  • My sister is getting an internship at the Ala Moana mall in Hawaii this summer. She wants me to come with her and find a job also. I am totally up to do it! But I'm in college and really need to save up some money, I already have a job lined up for the summer... it's a crappy job working every weekend of the summer in a kitchen paying $8.00. I'd love to go to Hawaii but I would want that reassurance that I WILL find a job and be getting paid more than I would if I didn't go. Does anyone know of good part time jobs that pay descent in the Aiea, Hawaii or Ala Moana area? ...Oh and go ahead and make fun but I was even leaning towards a Hooters Girl. I can admit I have a pretty face, maybe not such a great body, and I have boobs but nothing that would make a guys jaw drop. Any advice would be great! :)

You should be able to find a job, but you may not make more than $8 an hour--salaries are much lower here. The economy is turning downward, so make sure you check out ads on Craigslist, and also make the rounds in Waikiki for waitressing or retail clerking.

Ala Moana has some good restaurants, so getting a job there may be easier than getting a job in retail. I suggest checking out the classifieds and craig's list NOW then calling around and trying to do an interview either over the phone or set one up for as soon as you get here. There is no guarantee that you will land a job, but jobs here definitely pay more (you can earn $9 working at Mcdonald's or 7-11), and the unemployment rate here is the lowest in the country. Just be prepared for some competition, Ala Moana will be a feeding ground for kids looking for summer jobs.

Its jobs everywhere on Oahu. You should not have a problem getting a jobbie just get there before school gets out. Also timeshare companies are always hiring. They have Wyndam, Shell Vacation Club, Marriot, Hilton etc right there in Waikiki. They'll hire anyone

If you're living near Ala Moana, you probably won't want to commute to Aiea, and if you're living near Aiea, you DEFINATLY won't want to commute down towards Ala Moana (the traffic is TERRIBLE). Hooters here is really picky (not to discourage or anything!!) but I've got friends who work at the Cheesecake Factory and make good money (plus, they're always hiring!). My advice would be that if you're living in the Honolulu-area, work down on the strip. If you're living closer to Ewa Beach/Aiea, go apply at Peal Ridge or the Outlets in Waikele.
