Ok Chris, you stay on Kaanapali Beach, you probably already know that Black Rock, which ova in front of Sheraton, maybe best snorkel place in all Maui, ok? Molokini maybe mobetta, but that matta of opinion, yeah? So, this what you should do, go to ABC market, you know they every where, and get underwater guide to wildlife, include fish, turtles, and plant stuff you gonna see, ok? Then, get grease pencil, and when you see thing on card, mark it off on card, then you get idea of how many things you get to see, ok? You can get same type card for birds and plants hear Hawaii, ok? There so many different things to see, that the only way you gonna know names and what you see, ok? My suggest on jellyfish, if you see them in water, you get OUT, cause they sting kinda painful, ok? Also if you see ANY kinda shark, best to hightail it out of water fast, ok? So, get you fins, mask and snorkel and get going, ok? Peace and aloha to you from Hawaii.

We were at the Westin Ka'anapali 3 weeks ago and saw lots of whales, but they are leaving now, and there won't be so many any more. I don't think I saw a single lizard, but lots of birds. The Indian mynah birds are considered pests, but I kind of like to see them stroll around. The Westin has flamingoes and swans in its pond, also not native birds (native birds don't hang around the hotels). My favorite birds to see around hotels are the Brazilian cardinals. The males have grey bodies and red heads with a crest (the females have brown heads with a crest). Listen to the Kapaa Kid about the underwater stuff -- I'm getting too old to do that any more.

I don't even know where that is but here are some common animals found in Hawai'i http://www.volcanogallery.com/hawaii1.htm

You may see sea turtles and whales from the beach there. If you go snorkeling you will see all sorts of beautiful fish including the humuhumunukunukuapua'a (the state fish), yellow tangs, manini, parrotfish, damselfish, and more. If you're real lucky you might see an octopus or and endangered Hawaiian monk seal (the state mammal). If you see a jellyfish...stay away from it, their stings burn pretty awful. There are lots of birds on Maui...most of the ones you'll see near the hotel are non-natives like mynah birds, java sparrows, pigeons, cattle egrets, saffron finches, and Japanese white-eyes, to name a few. Between Lahaina and Kihei is the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge that has lots of native birds. There is a boardwalk there (free) from which you can see Black-crowned Night Heron ('Auku'u) and endangered Hawaiian stilts (Ae'o) and endangered Hawaiian coots ('Alae ke'oke'o). There are many migratory birds that visit there too such as the Pacific golden plover, and Bristle-thighed curlew. If you take a trip up to Haleakala, you might be real lucky and see some endangered nenes (the state bird), also known as a Hawaiian Goose. The only native terrestrial mammal is the Hawaiian Hoary Bat ('ope'ape'a). They are endangered and rarely seen by anyone. The mammals you will likely see are the invasive Small Indian mongooses. While there are no native lizards, 3 skink species and 4 gecko species likely came as stowaways aboard the voyaging canoes of the Polynesian settlers of the Hawaiian Islands. Now there are at least 21 lizard species in the Hawaiian Islands including geckos, skinks, anolis lizards, chameleons, and horned lizards.
