Best shops for teens in Hawaii?

  • Hi there (; My family & I are going to Hawaii in July for a holiday. One of the main parts of my holiday is the shopping! We're going to Honolulu, and there's this place called the Ala Moana Shopping Centre which has loads of shops. I live in Australia, so I don't know many American shops. I'm nearly 14, so what shops would be good for me to go to? Thanks(: (btw, it doesn't have to be in the Ala Moana Shopping Centre, but has to be in Honolulu / Waikiki / Oahu) (also asked this question in Teen&Preteen)

  • Answer:

Ala Moana SC will have more expensive shops. My teenager likes shopping at Aeropostale and can find some cheaper outfits there. Lookm for deals on tops (thin tee shirts for layering). Old Navy is a Gap store, and has some reasonably-priced items. Now and then, Macy's and Sears (at opposite ends of the mall) have good bargains on the sales racks. If you pick up a Sunday paper beforehand, Macy's usually has coupons off (some only if you have a Macy's charge card). Sanrio and Shirokiya have some interesting Japanese odds and ends you might find interesting. Cell phone charms and Sanrio things. You must buy something from at least one of these: Local Motion, Hawaiian Island Creations, or Town and Country Surf, all Hawaii surf shops. ;) For Hawaii 50 Kukui High tees, the easiest place to get them is ButiGroove, across Piikoi street from Ala Moana SC. Go with an adult. I don't know that I would let my teen go in there unaccompanied! The Ward Village shops are about 3 city blocks west, and at the far west end, there is a Ross Dress for less shop, lots of good deals for teens. Look for athletic wear and designer wear. Personally I prefer Nordstrom's Rack, behind the Ward Theatres, but it is a little harder to find the best deals there, so be careful. Coach shoes are a good deal there. At both places, be sure to check the items carefully for flaws. Sometimes the markdowns are because there is a snag or missing buttons. For some unique tee shirts, go to Noveltee world, http://www.noveltworldhawaii.com/ Browse in Na Mea Hawaii in the Ward Warehouse and/or Mana Hawaii in Waikiki (near Ft DeRussey area). Authentic Hawaii-made products, and if they have any demonstrations, try them out. At the other end of the spectrum (of authenticity!) is WalMart, about a block north of Ala Moana SC, there are lots of cheaper-priced clothing and trinkets. Most of it is made in Asia, so be careful about what you buy! Don't bother going upstairs to Sam's Club, which is a wholesale membership-only club. You can get sunscreen, beach mats, souvenirs, coffee, and macadamia nut candy at Walmart (most of it from Asia or elsewhere outside of Hawaii). Hawaiian Host has the best mac nut candy, and anything that says Kona Coffee MUST BE, by law, at least 10% Kona coffee. Some of the mac nut candy companies use mac nuts fro Australia.... so I buy Hawaiian Host ONLY. I hope you get a chance to get out of Waikiki! Aloha!

So Ala Moana is just like any other shopping mall (although i don't know what the mall's are like in Australia) with teenage stores like American Eagle, Abercrombie, Hollister, Gilly Hicks, PacSun, Forever 21, Aeropostale, Victoria's Secret, and much more. There is also a store called Cinnamon Girl, which is only in Hawaii & i think it's adorable(: I don't really buy clothes from there but the knick-knacks there are verry cute (It's also at Ala Moana). Hope this helps! & enjoy your trip(:
