Hey Smiley, good to have you back, ok? You know, first not a big problem to be tourist, cause if you not Hawaiian, you ALL tourist, ok? Some of you just won't go home, ok? I only kid you, so don't get mad, ok? I think best thing you can do is get acquainted with the people of Hawaii, cause Hawaii beautiful place, but made more beautiful by how people are, ok? So, yeah, come stay with cousins, live like them spend time at beach, and immerse you self inna culture, you not be sorry, ok? Peace and aloha to you!

You're a tourist anyway you look at it. No offense, but locals will know. Don't worry about it. Do this: Buy the book "Oahu Revealed." It's by Wizard Press and it will give you all the insights on things to do. My suggestions are as follows and I lived in Hawaii for 5 years. 1. Go to Makapuu and climb down into the tidal pools. You can find the trail just around the corner to the left after the whale info signs. 2. Go to Liliha Bakery and get the triple stack pancakes and a butter roll for breakfast. 3. Go to Pali lookout, climb down the path that goes past the "No Entry" sign, and take it under the highway and hike to the waterfall down there. You just have to climb the path on the far side of the bridge about 400 yards past the highway. 4. Snorkle in the real Shark's Cove, which is just north of the little cesspool everyone goes to. Go out past the rocks to the left. 5. Go to Yokohama Bay and experience the real power of the waves.

you should go to northshore side. it's pretty popular to go eat kahuku shrimp or giovanis garlic shrimp. You also have to try the shave ice on that side too. Going north shore without eating those will be a regret so go go go! Waikiki is fun too sometimes but you said you don't want to go to the tourist area but still it's fun!

There is Polynesian Cultural Center (see the night show Ha), North Shore beaches are the best, Waikiki is fun for a day or two. If your cousins are local, they should be able to show you quite a bit. Don't worry about looking like a tourist.. all the local haoles look like tourists too.
