Which hotel should we stay in for Sesame Place?

Where's a good place to stay in Hawaii if you want to snorkel every day right outside the hotel.?

  • We want to be able to have a good snorkeling area within walking distance of the hotel. Not have to load up in the car, take a drive and lug everything to the beach, back to the car, back to the hotel. We just want to enjoy the beach right from the hotel and some great snorkeling as well. Any one know? Island doesn't matter, if it has the beach and snorkeling outside the hotel.....

    West Maui, from Honokowai to Napili. This is a five mile+ shoreline w/100's of condos right on the beach w/ great snorkeling. Some condos don't have a beach in front of them, there are rocks & some tidepools, but the snorkeling is still great. We used to catch lunch & dinner out there.Napili Bay is the best adjacent to,(also Kahana Bay.) Safe for kids also. Don't rent your equipment from the hotel, go to Snorkel Bob's, right in Napili. www.napilikaibeachclub.com is where I would stay. I lived on Maui right there in Kahana & Honokowai for 16 yrs. www.gohawaii.com (the Hawaii Visitors and Conventions Bureaus website) Kaanapali is good also, that's where all the hotels are, Hyatt, Marriott, Westin, Kaanapali Beach Hotel, Sharaton, & The Royal Lahaina Hotel. An upscale condo between the Marriott & the Westin, Kaanapali Alii, I've stayed there before, full kitchens, Beautiful rooms! Highly reccommended. All these places are RIGHT on the ocean. I just went on the Napili Kai site, not the one in Lahaina, Make sure it's the one in Napili Bay. Maui is without a doubt the best island to vacation. Aloha!

I'm assuming your gonna be staying on O'ahu. If this is the case, there really isnt much for snorkeling in the Waikiki area. Stay at the Hapuna Prince Hotel on the Big Island. They have an awesome beach and nice snorkeling along the beach. You dont have to drive. The resort is huge but helps maintain some privacy during your vacation. We went last year and the snorkeling was good and easy to get to. Sea turtles also visit this part of the coast. You can rent snorkel equipment from the hotel if you dont want to bring your own. Its pretty expensive so if you want snorkel a lot, bring your own equipment. Conde Nast, a travel magazine, has rated the Hapuna Beach as one of the best beaches in the world.

Try the Big Island. Because of the volcanic activity there's lots of beach areas with rock (which gives fish a place to hide). You'd probably do best on the Kailua-Kona side although I don't know which hotel would be best. Don't plan to stay on any that are on Ali'i Drive because that's the downtown area of Kona.
