Where is a good place to spend 4th July?

What is a inexpensive but great place in Michigan to spend July 4th?

  • We are trying to determine a good quick solution for our lack of fourth of july plans. We want to find somewhere that has cheap housing and a good show in Michigan. Any ideas

    Well first off what part of Michigan are you in, that would kinda help. If your any where near St.Clair (below Port Huron) you can spend a fun day there, take a blanket or lawn chairs and a picnic basket. And you can sit out in the park along the boardwalk, and watch as the ships and boats go by. While you listen to a live band and wait for the fire works (dusk/10:pm) You can grab a bite to eat at Murphys Inn 3 minutes walk from the boardwalk on Clinton Ave ( Irish style pub). They offer great food and yummy pizza, also you can stay the night if needed, very cute cozy rooms (i think a room runs about $80.00 for the night). Or you can stay just out side of St.Clair (between St.Clair & Marysville) at the River Crab. St.Clair will offer you a " Norman Rockwell " small town feel, if that is something your looking for on the 4th.

Southwestern Michigan on the Lake is beautiful. The Harbor Country area in New Buffalo, Three Oaks, Lakeside, Harbert areas in full of antiques, art galleries, bed and breakfasts, beaches, shops, and New Buffalo also has a new casino. New Buffalo is also very close to Michigan City Indiana which has outlet shopping, as well as another casino, a small zoo, and more beaches. New Buffalo is full of really nice restaurants as well. Oh, and we are about an hour out of Chicago if you needed to check out museums, etc.

Steve, No matter where you are in Michigan, the State tourism website will have something to help. http://michigan.org Once on the website, enter events in the search box (upper right hand side of the screen) this will bring you to a list. http://www.michigan.org/Things-to-Do/Events/Default.aspx Below the calendar is a link to view the entire month. Once you select an event, you can search under Places to Stay for some type accomodation in the area. Have a good time, the weather should be great.

Northern Michigan....Boyne City has the best 4th of July in the state (or so I've been told). If you want to be a loser, you could go to Traverse City (ooohh the Cherry Festival is this weekend...go to that), Petoskey, or Charlevoix. Horton Bay parade is a little intense because they will litterally ticket you if you are not patriotic enough...they're crazy over there. But yeah, northern michigan is the best place to celebrate. We're on the lake, tons of activities...ditch detriot and head 4 hours north-west, k? K

Muskegon is a pretty cheap place to stay for the weekend and they have the Muskegon Summer Celebration with concerts and fireworks on July 4th and 6th as well as a carnival with lots of games and rides. http://www.summercelebration.com/

MichiganGirl

Caseville, MI (about a 4 hr drive from Detroit). It is areally cute little beach town on Lake Michigan with a state part on the beach that you can camp out on with fireworks over the lake. Its really beautiful.
