How do you make sure you always have health care between jobs?

Why do most people in Michigan think health care is a stable industry for a career?

  • Every factory worker that has been laid off says they will go back to school and become a medical assistant or nurse. Even worse, these people actually do get hired. But for how much longer? When the inevitable cutbacks come to this delusional industry that bankrupts people for routine visits, all these people can kiss their jobs goodbye. If you think American health care can never be as slow, bad and inefficient as you claim Canada and Europe's are, think again. They've been fiscally responsible; we haven't. When hospitals are forced to make the inevitable cutbacks, you will see the economy turn for the worse. I just wish more people would realize this before it's too late, but then again, the government probably already does. They just don't want to let people on to it yet, but it's inevitable. What a shame, that people in this state are so stupid. You can't all leave your jobs in factories and work in hospitals. It doesn't work, economically. Delphi, GM and Ford bring outside money into Michigan, hospitals don't!

    Because it's a much more stable career choice than any manufacturing job anyone could get. Health care is something that's always going to be in demand. People will always need health care for several reasons: Injuries, checkups, cosmetic surgeries, child births, blood test, physical therapy, and etc. Health care is NOT like manufacturing where everyone who has a job or; career is being gambled by sales revenue, foreign competition and corporate greed. You think people who are making the transition from manufacturing jobs to a medical career is stupid. But in reality they're wise people who are at least making an effort to better themselves, instead of just sitting around collecting welfare and moping around because they're unemployed. Besides that. What else do expect a laid off factory worker to do? Work at Wal-Mart for the rest of thier life? Now that's stupid!

The skills one learns in school are transferable. A car factory is not. In 2006 the first BabyBoomers started to retire. Older folks consume almost 60% of the total Health Care pie. That slice will soon start getting bigger and bigger as the peak of the Boomers hit 65 in 15 years. Add another 40 years on to that and you have a massive industry. Now, will care get crappier as more Boomers move into the health care system. In part, maybe. But historically whereever Boomers have stepped things get better - for awhile - then they fall apart. Look at schools. In 1960 they couldn't build schools fast enough and now those empty buildings are left to rot all over the country.

Barracuda, I wouldn't go as far as saying that people are stupid. I would just say that most folks that are effected by this depression, are hopeful and will put there high hopes on anything. I will agree with you that, people that don't have medical benefits tend to not go to the doctors, and eventually this could lead to the medical industry being forced to cut back I don't understand how an economy that isn't producing goods can survive. The more dependent we become to other countries for anything from a nut cracker to a car, the more harm we do to our economy ( and I don't care how many wind turbines we build, they will never taker the place of millions cars a year ) Well thank you for letting me vent....Yes we need more outside $
