Which city is more dangerous, Detroit or Philadelphia?

Why arent there more sky scrapers in Detroit?

  • When I came to Detroit, I saw the GM building, standing tall, and well alone. Why isnt there any more tall building in Detroit, you go to New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago, Pittsburgh, they all have many many tall buildings, but everything in Detroit is like well standard size, nothing other than the GM building sticks out.

  • Answer:

Well, before in the past it was all about location, NEW YORK is known as the capital of the world, its a great city and thus, big building just naturally came. As far as Michigan goes, Detroit was a not a pivotal destination or city in the center of things, so it just never prospered. As for now, the city is in decline, and its also a dangerous city, so it does not attract any big businesses here.

I believe it's because the economy in Detroit has been in the toilet for quite a while and there aren't enough companies with employees to need such large buildings. GM is a major company in the area so they would need a large office space.

I have been to NYC and Chicago, Denver and Detroit. I do not like skyscrapers. Even the smaller ones in Denver sway so much in the wind you can feel the movements while working in offices there. The NYC streets are too dark and gloomy, sunlight blocked. Sears Tower, now called Willis, is impressive. So are other cities like Pittsburgh. But I don't consider GM HQ to be a skyscraper. Somewhat under the skyscraper category. And I like the shorter buildings in Detroit that let more sunlight in. Too bad there are other problems. It has more to do with some of the weirder aspects of finance and investment, maybe with ground mechanics and structural engineering too. Why hasn't Detroit prospered? I think they were losing somewhat to Japan in the 1980s. And that loss increased steadily. Then the financial crisis hit late last year. But Detroit had not been growing for years already. Denver is not doing badly by comparison. Colorado went through mining booms and busts and all other kinds of ups and downs. You sound like a city person. Opposite of me! I am a country boy, tried and true. I like apple blossoms in rural north Virginia around Wnchester. I like small towns better than cities. But I have lived in many of them except for NYC. I would wilt and die there, and passed through as fast as possible each time it was necessary in my long life. And wondered why others actually loved it.

Not as many people has NYC and Chicago. Also more land to spread out buildings. I love NYC it is beautiful.
