    Andy B. is poorly informed as to the status of supermarkets inside the City limits. There are indeed supermarkets in Detroit, just none of them are named Kroger or Meijer. Glory, Aldi, Save-A-Lot, HoneyBee, Mike's, etc ... all are within the City and several of them have multiple locations. Moreover, I hasten to add that the Midwest's largest Farmer's Market is called Eastern Market and it is open 6 days out of 7; so, Andy B. before you jump to furture contusions with misinformation, you should really check your facts. That said, the question is about urban farming and Detroit. Currently there are over 300 lots that are under cultivation inside the City. It is a very active sub-culture of people who come from all walks of life. I suggest you google, The Greening Of Detroit, or the Georgia Street Community Collective for additional information. If your question is about large-scale urban farming, that has not taken off yet but a foothold has been established by some businessman named Hartz.
