What kind of jacket should I buy for winter here in Michigan?

If you're like me, I don't spend a lot of time outside in the winter, So I just wear enough to keep warm for short periods, like going from the house to the car. I spend far more time driving, so I like a loose fitting jacket. If I need to be outdoors for a long time I'll just wear a sweater under the jacket. Oh yeah, always wear a hat. Most of your body heat will escape through the top of your head.

Look for information on the tag that shows the temperature range a coat is rated for in comfort. For Michigan you want something that says it will keep you warm to 0 degrees F.! The temperature rating is more important than the material. By the way, I assume you're not originally from the area, and suggest that you look for a style that will cover your rear end!

Something that is good for the snow, heavy and thick, North Face is good..but I wouldnt recommend leather, lots of rain and snow, which can ruin the coating.

a thick one haha...North Face, Patagonia, Marmot, Columbia...go to REI or Moosejaw to buy one...bty they are expensive but thats the way it is when you need heavy duty gear

Honestly, I recommend having two winter jackets if you do a lot of driving. One THICK, heavy, hooded coat for when you're going to be outside for an extended period of time and a lighter "driving jacket". Cabela's has some good selections. Northface or even a Carhart.

I'd recommend a snowmobile jacket. Choko, HJC, Coldwave, Mossi are all great brands.

You need gloves,scarf,hat,boots an a warm coat it can get bitter cold yet we do get some little breaks sometimes
