Greyhound Bus service between Detroit and Philadelphia?

Travelling from New York - Detroit on Greyhound Bus?

  • I'm travelling to the USA next week and was wondering if anyone could give me some information on the greyhound service from New York - Detroit in terms of how safe it is, is it comfortable and are the buses crowded? I'm Irish and I'm not used to travelling on long bus journies (the longest ive ever been on is 4 hours) - i know the schedule of the route and i know prices etc i just need to know general information on travelling on Greyhound in America. thanks for any help guys

    Honey, I love my city but I wouldn't want to be there alone. Make certain that someone is going to pick you up from the depot. Stay inside the depot till your friends/family pick you up. It's not the worse part of town but it is a big city and some people can be cruel. That's any big city. I have traveled Greyhound many times and I feel you will be fine. If the driver stops at a restaurant (fast food) and says "20 minute break!" be back at the bus in 15. I have seen drivers leave people behind. Be well and I hope you enjoy Michigan!

Keep an eye on your belongings at all times. There can be some low-lifes riding the bus sometimes. And whenever you have a chance to get off the bus and stretch your legs, take it.

I'm a lifelong Detroiter and am offended when people say our city is scary. I have lived Downtown and in the suburbs. You can take the bus or an Amtrak train (to Dearborn or Ann Arbor). If you choose to fly, it's usually better to take a train from NYC to Newark and take the airtrain, which is free, to pick up Amtrack.

You shouldn't have any problem on the Greyhound bus. It's comfortable (although someone may tilt their head on yours when asleep), and yes it is safe. Only big problem is you're going to Detroit, which is the opposite of safe. Just stick to downtown and try to avoid being flashy.
