What are good tent camping locations in the Midwest?

Unofficial camping near boulder co?

  • Hey so I'm looking for some unofficial camping locations within about 30-45min of boulder colorado. what I mean by this is I don't want to set up my tent alongside others and near cars. I'd like to go off into the woods somewhere and set it up. so does anyone know of a good place for me to do this?

  • Answer:

You can camp for free in a "primitive" camping site in National Forests. Basically you just have to walk into the forest and look for a flat enough area to set up your tent. There is plenty of National Forest land within a short drive of Boulder. I suggest finding an Arapaho forest ranger station phone number and calling them to get advice on where primitive camping might be available. The rangers are generally really knowledgeable and friendly.
