What are Good Colorado Camp Grounds?

Where is the best camp grounds in colorado?

  • Answer:

    1. Rocky Mountain National Park (near Estes Park, CO) a couple hours from Denver. It's the most beautiful mountain park in the west with over 60 peaks over 12,000 ft. Nearby Grand Lake offers wonderful boating. 2. Golden Gate Canyon State Park (near Golden, CO which retained it's small-town feel in spite of being so close to Denver.) Both the park and town are great places to hang out. There's ample rock climbing and the Coors Beer plant to tour if you're into the free drinks at the end of the tour. 3. Mesa Verde National Park. (Near Durango, CO.) It's about 8 hours drive from Denver but worth the drive! The cliff dwellings there are a UNESCO World Heritage site and really great to check out. The weather there is surprisingly pleasant and there's plenty of trails. Durango is a great town and perfect for rock climbing and river rafting. 4. Cherry Creek State Park is like summer camp for people of all ages with horseback riding, boating, and plenty of trails & camping spots. The best part is that it's located very close to Denver. 5. Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve. Like roaming the deserts in the depths of Africa, (without the cost or pesky immunizations needed to go.) Countless movies have been filmed there, and the views are spectacular! Soaring peaks and fairly mild weather (as far as deserts & dunes are concerned) make this one of my favorite campgrounds. Honorable Mentions: -Mueller State Park near Colorado Springs, CO. -Bear Creek Lake Park near Morrison, CO (offers camping, boating & awesome bike trails.) - Colorado National Monument, near Grand Junction, CO. Beautiful cliffs & rock formations of crimson, violet, and scarlet. The western slope's Petra of Jordan. I've lived in Colorado all my life (and can trace my roots here back five generations.) I'm also a huge camper & love anything outdoors like rock climbing and spending summers in my kayaks.
