How do you change your mailing address at the post office if you moved out of state?

  • Hi, Me and my wife moved to Denver CO from Wisconsin about a month ago. We filled out the little paper for both of us here in Denver changig our mailing address to here. Today I called the post office that delivers our mail and the lady said I need to call our post office in our old town and ask them to forward it. This is so confusing. We already changed our address on our bills but we haven't received any mail yet. So whre is it? How do we tell the USPS to forward our mail to here? Thanks guys

    You have to send the change of address card to the OLD post office, not the new one. So if you did it in Denver, you should have sent it back to Wisconsin. You can also do it online. Go to usps.com. On the bottom left, click on Change Your Address. Follow up with the old post office, to make sure they have gotten the directions.

You need to file a change of address form with the postmaster of the local post office you are moving FROM not the one you are moving TO. You can do it on line or you can get the form at any local post office but it needs to be addressed to the postmaster at your old zip code.
