Camp near Rocky Mountain National Park?
-
When I was in sixth grade, about six years ago, we took a three day field trip to a camp near RMNP. It seems like it could have been near Estes Park, but I might be getting wires crossed. I remember that our bus stopped off the side of the road and our camp guide met us by arriving on a zip wire and guiding us up the trail to the camp. We took a hike into a meadow/valley located in the park as our activity one day, so I know it had to be close to RMNP, the website doesn't list any places like this though. Or maybe I'm just not looking in the correct place. I remember that there were a few small cabins with bunk beds and then at least three large cabins with large kitchens, living rooms, porches, and three bedrooms. Does this sound at all familiar?

Answer:
Cabins... for cabins I would have to guess the YMCA Estes Park center. Not sure if they have zip lines but it wouldn't surprise me! They cater a lot as family and group retreats, so plenty of activities of the sort. Its also on the side of RMNP near Moraine Park, so that would be a good guess where you might have hiked. http://www.ymcarockies.org/estes-park-center-colorado.html

Yep, pretty sure you're talking about YMCA of the Rockies at Estes! I'm pretty sure they do have a ropes course and it borders Rocky in one area. It's grown a lot in the past decade etc. and there's a lot of possible buildings you could have mentioned. YMCA Estes... it really is a great facility, and what's cool is that it's open to the public and to private groups like your field trip. It's a bit more pricey than just regular tent-camping in RMNP or in nearby Forest Service campgrounds but probably less than most local hotels. There are other camps I've stayed at that are kind of above Lyons & Boulder and other areas, but its the main camp near Rocky and does fit your description.
