winter park is BEAUTIFUL in winter. you probably won't have snow in oct, though. probably not in nov, either. denver...hmmm...broncos...check out boulder. go hiking around baseline. check out red rocks.

Can you be more specific in what part of October you will be visiting? The weather changes a lot from the beginning of the month to the end. Generally October is one of the nicest months to visit the area. The weather is gorgeous for most of the month. It can snow in Denver in October but its not often. Usually the temps are in the 60s or 70s. However by the end of the month and close to Halloween there always seems to be a change and the weather turns more cold and wet. So if you can come in the first half of the month you won't be disappointed. The fall foliage is fantastic at this time as well! As for Winter Park, it would be a nice place to visit as well. Its usually just a ski area and in early October they will not be open for skiing yet. I'd recommend staying a little closer to town more geared to tourists such as Vail or Brekenridge. Both are about an hour or a little longer away from Denver. I am also glad to hear you are interested in going to a Broncos game! Tickets will not be available for quite some time as the NFL schedule is not announced until the second week in April. The last week in July the Broncos sell individual game tickets through Ticketmaster. But you have to act quick, those tickets will sell out in about 10 minutes or less. If you don't manage to get tickets that way you'll have to use a ticket broker such as stub hub or buy tickets from scalpers on game day. You will pay a mark up this way but the prices are not outrageous like some of the east coast teams are. You'll have a great time at the game! The atmosphere is a great and October is my favorite time to go to a game.

I live in Dillon, CO, about 1 1/2 hours west of Denver, and about 1 hour from Winter Park. We have nearly the same climate, but because of the mountains, you can have completely different weather patterns at the same time. Ordinarily, we have enough snow to ski on in the second half of October, although this year, it was so dry, we were beginning to worry about snowpack ever happening. There was enough manmade snow to get things going by mid-November, but that's a little late. Yes, ordinarily we do have some snow during October, and most years we have a good storm or two by mid-September, but a lot of it will melt. Don't COUNT on being able to ski at Winter Park in October, but definitely bring warm (layers) clothing for a Broncos game, because you just never know, and lots of flatlanders are surprised by how cool it can get, even in the summer time in the mountains.

It's beautiful here in Oct. But you never know what you are going to get with the weather. Be sure to rent a vehicle with 4-wheel drive. Then you can drive to Winter Park (1 1/2 hrs.) and many other beautiful sights here in the fall. Maybe the leaves will be still turning and you can see the fall colors. If so, drive up Guanella Pass, off the Georgetown exit from I-70. If we get a lot of snow, Winter Park could be open to ski. Usually at least one or 2 resorts are open early season. Be sure to wear orange and blue for the Bronco game. Come early to check out the tailgate activity in the parking lot. Be sure to drink extra water. The climate is dry here, drinking water helps with that and jet lag. Congratulations!

Everyone else pretty much covered everything. But you should DEFINITELY look into Broncos tickets very soon. The good seats (and most seats) sell out really far in advance, even when the Broncos suck like right now. (Don't worry, I always like them, they just weren't good this year). But really, people here are diehard Bronco fans, so you should get tickets as soon as you can! And the weather is really hit or miss. I've seen Octobers that are really nice with temperatures in the 70s, and I've seen other Octobers where it snows 2 feet in one night. (At least in the Denver area). The mountains are a different story, and you'll probably at least see some snow in Winter Park in October.
