Arlington is between Dallas and Ft Worth, has some of the best schools and is affordable. There is also the Tarrant County Community College with several locations.

I love South Garland, housing is affordable, lots of businesses for work and community colleges close by. One off of I-30 and one off of I-635.

Live on the very edge of North Dallas, up near the Galleria. They have some very inexpensive housing to the East of the Galleria, and many community colleges up there. And it's also pretty safe too. Rents are cheap compared to most cities their. But be warned, you get what you pay for, and there will be many other poor people there too.

North Dallas would be the best bet, I grew up in East Dallas, and North Dallas. North Dallas has a fair amount of different races, close to stores, malls, community colleges. Look at The Village Apartments off of Fisher/Southwestern. It's a nice young community, and very affordable. They have apartments surrounded the area, and a country club with a pool, fitness center, soccer and football field.
