Moving to the DFW area and need advice on where to live?
-
My wife and I (early thirties) are moving to the DFW area next month from Michigan, but do not know where to look for an apartment / condo / townhouse. Here are the things we need to consider when choosing a place: 1) We are newly weds and plan on having our first child soon. 2) We also have a small dog. 3) We do like to go out to the bar on the weekends. 4) She will be working in Bedford. 5) I will be looking for a job and obviously do not know where I'm going to end up working. Possibly need to choose a locations that is centralized in the DFW area or near a train station (if there is one). 6) Somewhere safe! I need advice on where to look based on our considerations above. We've vacationed in Dallas before but have no idea on where to live!! Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you! Robert

Answer:
I've lived in Dallas for over 30 years and am originally from the Midwest. I have loved living here and have seen many changes--most of them good, some of them not so good. The people here have been friendly to me and seem to be decent and caring on the most part. I think that some of the "very wealthy" areas of town can be cliquish--we call it "living in the bubble", but that is certainly not Dallas in general. Dallas is cosmopolitan and has some wonderful museums, parks, sports and concert venues and new symphony and opera halls. I'm never bored here--there is always something going on. Whiterock Lake is located in an area northeast of downtown, and has wonderful jogging and biking trails as well as a beautiful park and arboretum. There are lots of large trees and pretty vistas of downtown Dallas buildings at night. The Uptown area has the Katy Trail and many shops, restaurants and new condos and apartments.

Live in Bedford. It's a good area located between Dallas and Ft Worth in the "mid-cities" area. If you need the train, you can take it in nearby Hurst or Euless You should also consider looking in Hurst, Euless or Grapevine.
That would be on the Fort Worth side and some decent suburbs would be North Richland Hills and Hurst but if you want to be in the middle of everything than Arlington is the central spot of the Metroplex.
