Best way to go to Dallas, TX from Wichita, KS?
-
My friends and I are planning to go to Dallas, TX from Wichita, KS during this Thanksgiving break. The problem is we all are underage. 3 of us are 19 and 20. Since we are underage, we cannot rent a car. One of them has a car, but the tires are not in a good condition. If we are taking that car, we might have to change the tires. We could take a plane to go there but we just want to save money. Is it possible to take a bus? Is there any bus from Wichita to Dallas? How much does it cost? Also, are there any hotels that we can reserve even we are underage? What is the best way to go to Dallas and save money on our trip? What is the best place to stay?

Answer:
You already got some good answers, but I just want to add that if you do take a bus, be careful. It's not unheard of for people to try to take advantage or even rob travelers at bus stops. The bus stop in Dallas is not a place where you will find many good, upstanding citizens, if you know what I mean. Use common sense and don't become too friendly with strangers you meet on the bus or at the bus stop. The less they know about you, the better.

You might consider Amtrak if you have the extra travel time it will take. A ticket from Kansas City will cost around $250 and travel time is 27 hours. Keep in mind that if you fly or take the train/bus, you will still need to get around Dallas. So be sure and bring money for bus/light rail/cab fair.

Yes, u can take a bus. Call ur local bus station. Do a search on google for hotels in dallas. If u have a credit card or debit card u can pay for your hotel without a problem..u do not have to be 21. Have a great trip and stay save in BIG D!

Just go straight down IH 35. There was construction near Marietta in southern Oklahoma when I drove through there in Februrary, so be extra careful. And have a safe and fun visit down here.

I-35 the whole way. There are several motels like Motel 6 that charge maybe $50 a night. Call ahead so you can make a reservation.

I do believe you have to be 21 or over to book a room at a hotel so call ahead. You could see about the Greyhound bus. It'd be $278.10 one way if you left on Wednesday before Thanksgiving and an 8 hour trip. You'd be better putting that money into tires. Wichita to Dallas is 366 miles straight down I-35 as others have mentioned. Estimating at 30mpg that's be 12 gallons. Depending on the size of the gas tank, you may be able to make the trip for the price of a tank of gas. As for the tires, look at used tire places, you can usually get them %50 or more cheaper than brand new tires. Used tires are usually partially worn on repaired but still good value. Enjoy your trip.
