Where can I go for a great, cheap, weekend getaway?

Where can I go for a weekend getaway not too far from my home in Cincinnati?

  • I would like someplace where my 12 year old boy won't be boored and a place where I can relax also but not more than a 5 hr. drive from my home in Cincinnati.

You've got some options with 5 hours. You can make a short trip to Hocking Hills and stay in a cabin in SE Ohio. You can go down south to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge in the Smokey Mountains. You could go to Put-in-Bay up north on Lake Erie (would be a pretty cool trip, its the only real "beach" type experience you could have within 5 hours of Cincy). You could go spend a few days up in Chicago which is almost exactly 5 hours away (its a little less relaxing though). You could get a houseboat on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky. You could go to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. You could go whitewater rafting in Hico, West Virginia. LOL, there really is a lot!

It depends on what you and your son like to do. Lake Erie is about 4-5 hours away. Cedar Point would be fun if he likes roller coasters. Cleveland is about 5 hours away and there is the Hall of Fame Football in Canton. Columbus has COSI Museum and you can walk around Ohio State. Hocking Hills was mentioned and there is also John Bryan Park around the Dayton area. Natural Bridges I think is in Kentucky and is a relaxing place. Good place for hiking.
