Who knows about downtown chicago?
-
My friends and I are going downtown Chicago in the near future and need to know how to navigate. I have just a few questions... 1) How far from the Ogilvie Transportation Center is Millennium Park? 2) Is it in walking distance ??? and how would we get there? 3) From MIllennium Park, how far is Macy's? 4) Are there two separate ice-skating rinks in Millennium Park? And if so, how do you get to the one that is not the main one?? 5) Is Michigan Avenue closer to Macy's or Millenium Park?

Answer:
(1) Ogilvie is about nine blocks from Millennium Park. (2) Unless you are old, feeble or physically disabled, yes, Ogilvie is in walking distance of Millennium Park. Walking is the best way to get around the city. Cab fare would be pretty cheap for that short distance, if you're too lazy to walk. Lots of buses run between Union Station and Ogilvie and Michigan Avenue, but for my time and money, I would just walk. (3) Macy's (or, to be more specific, the Store Formerly Known as Marshall Field's) occupies an entire city block and is bordered by Wabash, State, Randolph and Washington. Wabash lies directly east of Michigan Avenue, which where Millennium Park is located. (4) There is one ice rink in Millennium Park. It's smack dab in the front, right off Michigan Avenue, in front of the Park Grill. You can't miss it. (5) Millennium Park is ON Michigan Avenue. But the former Field's is extremely close. You might want to Google a map of any Loop cross street (e.g., "State St and Randolph St Chicago IL"), zoom out a bit and print. Manually star the locations of Ogilvie, Field's/Macy's and Millennium Park and bring the printout with you when you head downtown. This way you'll be less nervous making your way around. It's really very easy.
