What is the fare from amtrak station chicago to midway a/p?

• I am working on buying my father Amtrak tickets to come out and visit. However the train he would take has a 4 hour layover in Chicago, the whole trip being 14 hours for Amtrak.. My question is how tight is security at the Chicago hub? Do they check your carry on bags? Checking the big storage bags is no problem, hes just planning on bringing along a rat that could fit into a small bag, would this be checked?

  There are rules for what is and isn't permitted as carry-on luggage, and you should obey those rules. Unless there's a reason to suspect that your dad has something not permitted with him, it's unlikely he will be checked. However, both in the station and on the train they do reserve the right to check anything you have with you.
