What should I do during a 1-2 day trip to Chicago?

  • I'm taking my boyfriend up to Chicago to see the Chicago Fire play next Saturday. While it's only a 2 hour drive for us, I have never seen Chicago and would like to spend Saturday and part of Sunday there. Toyota Stadium is in Bridgeview. I'm not really sure how far that is from Chicago and whether or not we can just take a subway from Bridgeview to Chicago. So: Is there anything that is a must see in the area? Is it worth spending the two days up there? What is the best method of transportation between Chicago and Bridgeview? Thanks!

    Drive from Toyota Park to Midway's Orange Line stop. You can save money parking at Midway on 59th Street ($12 per day). Take the "L" train downtown. To get from Toyota to Midway, take Harlem Ave. North to 63rd Street; go East (right) onto 63rd St. to Cicero Ave. Go North (left) onto Cicero to 59th Street. Go East (right) onto 59th and 2 blks. in is ParkSaver lot. There's four or five hotels right on Cicero (at 65th St.) if you want to avoid the high hotel prices downtown.

There is not much in way of Bridgeview to see, even in the area of Worth and Chicago Ridge, there are a AM PM gas station, and a Thorton's gas station, it will all depending on where you are driving from Chicago to Bridgeview, but at least figure, at the most a half hour. If you like Culver's, there is one in Bridgeview, but there are a lot of must sees in Chicago. But you are going to be in town, during Taste of Chicago, and if you like pizza, the usual pizza places will be there selling pizza. Or you might want to plan a trip to Navy Pier, or Millennium Park. Check out http://www.navypier.com or http://www.millenniumpark.org , if you want to plan a visit there, and you can find more info about this year's Taste of Chicago at http://www.tasteofchicago.us , but let me tell you that it is very crowed there, even at lunch and dinner time, and I am not sure when does the crowd die down for a while.
