What does a hotel concierge service include?

  • I'm staying at a hotel with a concierge service for a trade show and was wondering what their service includes. Can you leave your bags with a concierge before check in?

    It mainly consists of providing information and reliable answers about the city and surrounding area but also can include ticket booking, favored restaurants, dining reservations, tour arrangements, transportation, among other things. Normally there is no fee for this service but a tip is appreciated...especially for more than 1 request. The concierge does not take baggage but will certainly arrange to safely secure it...most likely in a room off the main lobby.

Concierges are knowledgeable and arrangers. They can tell you the sights, restaurants within your budget, get tickets for musicals, they can arrange for flowers to be sent to someone out of town. So they won't take your bags (porter/valets job), but they can call the porter to arrange to have them stowed safely in a locked room for you. So I guess the way to look at it is that the concierge knows about everything and how to get it done. He/she will just arrange for the right people to actually do it.
