When you go to chicago beaches can you go in the water ?

hey guys i am from chicago illinois i was born there but not we live in houston me and my sis started talking about chicago and there beaches she said you cant go in the water we are going back to our hometown this summer (chicago) and wanna know if you can go in cause when we lived in chicago we never really went to the beaches we just had fun in our hometown :)

The water temperature in Lake Michigan keeps most people out of the water except in July and August. On warm, sunny day the beaches are crowded, and lots of people go in the water to jump around and have fun. The lifeguards keep you from going out too far, but have boats available if anyone gets into trouble while swimming.

You can go in the water. Many do. I haven't in years, though. They do close the beaches if the bacteria levels go above "accepted levels".
