What does Chicago have tourism-related that New York City doesn't?
-
I believe the two aspects that Chicago and New York City compete with the most aggressively are the pizza and architecture. Usually, Chicago's architecture has more mentioning in books, research articles, etc. New York has Coney Island and proximity to the Atlantic City Boardwalk, while Chicago has Navy Pier. I will appreciate detailed answers to this question. Provide as many examples as you know or believe are true. Thank you.

To specifically answer your question about what tourism-related elements Chicago has that NYC does not: - Deep dish Chicago style Pizza - One of the most gorgeous river tours anywhere in the world (um... obviously don't do this in winter) - Kayaking in amongst the skyscrapers (kayakchicago.com) - Bicycle rentals that let you cycle all the way from 70th Street, up to Hollywood Ave.... nothing compares - One of the most amazing German U-boats in the world (check it out at the Museum of Science and Industry) - One of the most complete T-Rex skeletons (check it out at the Field Museum) - A very impressive Aquarium (does NYC have one?) - The Signature Lounge on the 96th floor of the JH Tower... I don't think NYC has a lounge this high in the sky - One of the most impressive Monet and Renoir collections in the world (The Art Institute of Chicago....)... again, I'm pretty sure neither MoMa nor The Met in NYC have such large Monet or Renoir collections - The Green Mill and Kingston Mines (two of the greatest Blues and Jazz clubs in America)... Al Capone used to frequent The Green Mill. Granted NYC has plenty of great Blues/Jazz clubs, but none with this level of history. - Frank Ghery's bandshell at Millennium Park... one of the most impressive outdoor concert facilities in the world - Loop "EL" train tours (pick up your tickets for FREE at the Chicago Cultural Center at Randolph and Michigan Ave).... NYC simply doesn't have any elevated train tours - The Oprah Winfrey Show - Oak Street Beach, and Ohio Street beach.... again, NYC simply doesn't have beaches with skyscrapers right behind them Both are magnificent world-class cities.... but Chicago does indeed have things that NYC does not.

I live in Chicago and i love it. And to tell you the truth, i love New York City too. I go there at least once a year. Both cities are nice. But like most cities, they both have there downsides too. I mean, when people say NY, the first thing people thing of is Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. Chicago in the other hand, is the Willis Tower, John Hancock, Navy pier. Just like you, i have felt the competition between these two cities. I think it's irrelevant to see the two best cities of this nation to be just competing to make the best of everything not for their citizens, but to beat the other person! That's a major problem with both mayors. Other than that, i have seen NYC and loved it. I invited my friends from NY to Chicago, and they loved it here. They both just have their own things. Although, i have to admit, Chicago could do so much more with the streets. Food? Yes, pizza over there was amazing. But i also like deep dish. Hey, both are good! To detail it.... NY have Top of the Rock and Empire State building. COC has Willis tower and John Hancock. NY: Statue of liberty. COC: Navy pier. NY: Madison square garden. COC: Soldier Field, United Center. NY: Central Park. COC: Millennium Park. NY: Manhattan is bigger. COC: Downtown is smaller compared to NY. The cities fees such as taxes, meters, and cost of transportation are fairly the same.

We have the worlds tallest buildings and a skyline that is voted best in the world every year. And in talking to tourists they tell me that Chicago is so much friendlier, cleaner and safer than other places especially compared to New York
