Things To Do in Chicago. What are MUST things to do in chicago that you can only do in chicago?

  • I will be visiting chicago for a week during lalapalooza, what are some MUST things to do that you can only do in chicago? First time visiting there. i.e. food, bars, culture, lifestyle, etc.

  • Answer:

    - Navy Pier (always fun and really popular; offer boat rides on the lake.) - Art Museum (really big and interesting if you are into art) - Shedd Aquarium (escape the outside heat and enter the underwater world --HUGE and extremely enjoyable for any age) - Planetarium (fun if you are into that type of stuff) - Field Museum (classic and awesome) - Science and Industry Museum (if you are into touching and trying things out for yourself, you will love it) - Lincoln Park Zoo (free and fun -- also across the street from the Lake Michigan Beaches and a couple of blocks away from Wrigleyville --GO CUBS!--) - Michigan Ave --aka Magnificent Mile-- (tons of designer stores - a girls dream come true) - Millenium Park (really big and fun and a great place for a nice picnic -- right by Buckingham Fountain, which is one of the biggest fountains) - Sears Tower or Hancock Building (you cant go to Chicago and not see the skyline) HAVE FUN!! CHICAGO IS THE BEST!

How daring are you? Would taking a train be scary to you? I suggest that. I see you have a Mohawk. Get on the Red Line and get off at Belmont and you'll have a blast. More of the tourist type? Just go downtown and take any one of the numerous tours they'll be peddling down there. It's fun all over downtown. My favorite place to chill when I'm just walking around at lunch would be Navy Pier. It's beautiful at night and has fireworks on Saturday night. Have fun!

if you're going for lollapalooza, i would assume that you are really into music if you are into record collection, i would check out reckless records, the city's best record store also, make sure to look into the shows that the metro are throwing after the actual festival (just google metro chicago) as far as food, i would heartily recommend ordering some deep-dish pizza while you are in the area, no other place does it justice also, there are sections of town devoted entirely to greek and italian food, which is amazing and guaranteed delicious no matter where you go, ask locals about directions to these areas museums here are really interesting, i would recommend the field and science and industry museums above all others, as most of our others are fun, but not incredibly unique. the art institute is really great for art, and there is also a contemporary art museum that usually has interesting things. the shedd aquarium and lincoln park/brookfield zoo are nothing seriously worth seeing, but still neat. the newly built millenium park features interesting artsy-type things, but nothing really worth seeing and navy pier is somewhat iconic, but not anything you should be sad about missing. be careful for stupid tourist attractions on navy pier, if you go, these include the time traveling ride and the maze. every chicago resident makes the mistake of paying for either of these during their lifetime, don't do it! i would recommend doing some of the super-awkward touristy stuff, like going up the hancock observatory or going to a chicago cubs game. i'm a sox fan, but wrigley is a pretty iconic place, if you find yourself interested in sports. also recommended is a trip to china town! chicago is a beautiful city and i hope you have fun at lollapalooza, i can't wait for it!

Things you can only do in Chicago, eh? Well you can go to the top of the Sears Tower or John Hancock building (go to the Signature Lounge in the Hancock.. it's worth it), ride the el, see a White Sox or Cubs game, hang out in Wicker Park (the hipster part of town that is slowly losing it's edge... see it now), hit Greektown for dinner, see a late show at the Metro or Double Door, go to a free street fair and hear some local live bands, check out the Art Institute or the Museum of Contemporary Art, take a boat ride along the river, hit a blues clubs on North halsted street... too much to do. Pick up a copy of Time Out Chicago magazine when you get here. Seriously, it has listing for almost everything, from plays to the new comedy clubs that are popping up all over the place, with some shows as low as $5 or even FREE!

Well if you will be here in the next 2 weeks the Taste of Chicago will be happening, and later in August Lollapalooza is happeneing. Those events happen here and nowhere else in the world. I also suggest going up in the John Hancock building, seeing the Art Institute Art Museum, Eating a huge steak at Morton's Steakhouse and going on the ferris wheel on Navy Pier. Navy Pier also has free fireworks on Saturday nights all summer long. There are also a lot of city festivals in neighborhoods all over the city that happen all summer long. Sports people also like taking tours of Wrigley Field and Soldier's Field since they are so historic. The river boat architecture tours on the chicgao river (wendella tours) are also popular and talk about the history of Chicago and the buildings along the river and lake. As far as eats go you can indulge in BillyGoat's Tavern under michigan ave at 400 N michigan under the lower level. Also, a place like Excalibur is a club that has been around for a long time (and has a unique building) and still draws a crowd every weekend. Crowbr and White Star are also big name clubs/bars downtown.
