Best neighborhood in chicago?
-
I am looking at getting an apartment in Chicago. I would like to know what broad neighborhood is the best (north, south, east, or west)? Also, what neighborhood is the best within that neighborhood?

Answer:
"Affordable" doesn't really work when it comes to Chicago neighborhoods. For art, it would probably be best to be near the South Loop, but be careful. Don't go to far away from the Loop if you are going to be living alone. Try to avoid north of Loyola, West of Western Ave, or South of South Loop/Printer's Row. Of course, these are general guideline and many people live safe lives outside of these boundaries, but if you are new to the area, it might be a good general safety rule. The closer to the Loop the higher the prices. Apartments in Buena Park/Lakeview/Wrigleyville easily go for $800 a month for a studio (and that's pretty cheap). East is best if you want as general as 1 direction. Restaurants are all over, so don't worry about that. Hope this helps. If you add more info, might be able to narrow it down more. Good luck!

Depends on who you are and what you like. If you're in your 40s or 50s or even late 30s, you may not like Wicker Park, but lots of people think it's the hippest place around. Likewise, if you're in your 20s, you'd probably find Ravenswood and places like that boring. So what do you like? How old are you? what kind of music do you like? Are you into art? Do you want a lot of restaurant options nearby? Chicago has a LOT of neighborhoods and each has their own personality. It might help to know more about what you like.

Please find another city , rent is crazy because of out of towners like you. If you must move here then look around the Little Village or Back Of The Yards neighborhood if you want to experience "city life".
get one next to the community college its really safe

If you want the "best" neighborhoods, Edgebrook and Sauganash and north Lake Shore Drive are the best, but good luck affording a place in any of those areas. Most of the trendy neighborhoods, Wicker Park, Rogers Park, Lakeview, are pretty expensive, also. If you really want to experience "city" life, try the west side.
