Is Chicago the most similar city to New York city in the US?

New York City vs. Chicago.......?

  • I'm starting to think about life after college and where i want to settle down and live and everything, but one little problem. I'm so dead on about these two beautiful cities, but neither one has yet been "better" to me. there are pro's and con's to both i live in the chicago area (suburbs) right now and i barely visit downtown or anything so it's not like i'm sick of the city of Chicago yet. But i've been to New York only once and i would very well be a "new" person and people would think of me as a "tourist" so to say and i don't know how life is like in New York. in your opinion (city live-ers).... which would you live at if you never technically grew up in either? and why is the other better? and other facts, like which crime rates are worse, which is cleaner, which has better atmospheres, better apartments, better whatever!

  • Answer:

I haven't lived in NYC; only Chicago, but Chicago is AWESOME. The food is spectacular, the trains are great, the clubs are hot...the women are gorgeous (lol) but anyways...I live in Lakeview, about 20 miles North of the Loop. If you come out to live in the city proper, go to Chicago Apartment Finders. The office I used is on Belmont and Broadway in Lakeview. They got me a real nice studio for $595. It's close to the lake and only 2-3 blocks from both the Red and Brown Line trains. Chicago is where its at!!!

Lived in NYC my whole life, visited Chcago for a week last year. My Take: NYC has better transportation, pizza, hot dogs, museums, architecture, weather Chicago has better Blues clubs, appreciation for architecture, ballpark (Wrigley),

I just think Chicago is more manageable. More affordable. You can't even afford a closet in Manhattan unless you want to pay up the nose. People are much more aggressive there. The crowds--I wouldn't want to wait so long for a table! And from what I've seen when I visit Florida and there are NYers everywhere - THEY ARE LOUD.

not even close, my family and I chose Chicago over NY for a ton of reasons. NY was dirty, rude, dangerous, expensive, crowded and not very nice looking. Chicago is very clean, friendly, exciting, safe and so damn beautiful everywhere you go! No contest

First, I grew up in KY, so I'm not real biased. I love Chicago because the people are friendly, the transportation systems are great, there is planty of culture, Lake Michigan is a great recreational area, and the food is wonderful. I have also visited New York; the traffic is atrocious, there are too many dumps called restaurants, the waterways are okay for boating, but I'd stay away from the Atlantic. Housing is crazy in both cities. My vote is for Chicago. Try Toronto, if you are lucky enough to find a job there. It has the best of both worlds.

If you're lame and boring stay in Chicago...if you want a real exciting experience go to NYC.

Chicago definitely has my vote. Why ?: Food (hot dogs in Chicago are the best not NYC), Music Scene, very interesting architecture, Clean, more open space, friendlier mentality, Parks are more beautiful here in Chicago than in NYC, i can bet you a penny on that. A lot of things are better in Chicago, and being right by the lake is very nice, and it is much more affordable, especially purchasing homes in Chicago, can i add that suburbs are much better here as well, and generally safer than the ones in NYC. New York still isn't a bad place, but it's so overrated and touristy, it's more of a place to have a short stay or visit, rather than a place you could live in. --------------------------------------… Fashionista ... how can you get boring in Americas 3rd largest city, which is also one of the most known cities throughout the world ?... Oh wait.... You're a boring person, and also lame... forgot that part, sorry.

I agree with lolly she knows what shes talking about and sounds like a real new yorker..people are horrible here(horrible doesn't quit fit the word for them there way more then just horrible..but its hard to explain them since there so complicated...and couldn't care less about other people..the only way to survive here is if your up to date with everything clothes, updated attitude(yes even attitude gets updated here)similar like mind frame, you have to think like them to go far,way of talking, way of behavior everything..i feel sometimes everybody has the same mind frame.and at times they couldn't be more different. they go threw different stages.sometimes friendly, sometimes rude and aggressive. its sucks here and pretty much all over the world people are like this all over.expect small towns..don't live ina large city..try small towns.

Sorry, I hate them both, but Chicago is the lesser of 2 evils.
