Chicago Weather--Do I need snow boots?

• Later this week, I'm going to Chicago for a student conference. Does anyone in the area know if there's currently a significant amount of snowfall on the ground? I've looked up the projected weather for when I'm going to be there, and it's not supposed to snow, so I'm wondering whether or not I need to pack snow boots for snow that's already on the ground. I'm going to be walking around the general vicinity of my hotel for meals everyday, and possibly some longer walks for Sears Tower, etc. Thanks!

  It's been a light winter for snow. Cold might be more your concern. Nevertheless, while you don't currently need snow boots, you should have boots with traction. Consider wearing those but bringing a pair of "inside" shoes that you can change into. Dress in layers. Bring a scarf, and some long johns. And don't be afraid to wear a hat or at the very least some ear muffs. You lose more body heat through your head and even if you have "hat head," well, I guess you have to draw the line somewhere. You don't say where you're from, so I'd say the essentials are: hat or ear muffs, scarf, long johns, boots with traction and, oh, very, very important -- Blistex. You will be very happy you brought THAT. Sounds like you're going to be downtown: check out Exchequer Pub. Stay away from Bennigan's on Michigan / Adams. Do check out -- if you want a diner experience, Lou Mitchell's near Old St. Pat's Church. If you want something closer and inexpensive, Petro's (on Randolph & LaSalle, across from the old Bismarck theatre) is a really comfortable restaurant. Greek Town on Halsted is another good place to go. My favorite is Rodity's but there's lots more to choose from.
