Chicago-indian neighborhood and chicago in general?
-
I'm going to Chicago tomorrow and we're looking for different things to do, see, etc. I want to go to some different neighborhoods of the ethnic variety. My first question, well I guess it is more of a request, is this: Please tell me some unique things to do in some of these neighborhoods. Please keep it remotely inexpensive as well! I'm staying at the Chicago Hilton if that helps for distance and transportation costs. Also, does anyone know of a good place downtown to buy Indian crafts? Maybe crafts isn't the word I'm looking for. First of all, I love genuine Indian bangle bracelets. Anywhere to find them for a LOW price? What else can you tell me about this neighborhood?Any thing else you can suggest in downtown Chicago would be greatly appreciated! Best place for hot dogs? Pizza? Local celebrities? Unique things to see? Historical or haunted places? Anything!!For restaurants, please tell me what you like about the place and what you recommend ordering!

The best place to find authentic Indian jewelry for a low price is on Devon Avenue in the Indian area of North Chicago (http://www.devonavenue.com). From downtown Chicago, it is accessible by public transportation. Check http://www.transitchicago.com for directions. You can also take a cab but it might cost around $25. For other great ethnic neighborhoods, check out Pilsen (http://www.pilsenneighbors.org/org_history.html)15 minutes from downtown via the Pink Line) and Chinatown (http://www.chicago-chinatown.com) Red Line to Chinatown stop, also about 15 minutes). Both neighborhoods are a bit sketchy after dark so if you are traveling alone you may want to go during the daytime.

You picked the right place for ethnic variety! there are too many places and things that i like.Basic things are Lake Michigan i love to sit in the Lincoln park and watch the people go on with their daily lives. I see a variety of ethnicity there.and the museums are great Field museum. China town has great food. I think it is close to Chinese New Years! They have sort of a parade to celebrate with a dragon to welcome in the new year. If it was spring, you could go to The Cubs baseball games at Wrigley Field. There is always celebrities there. Chicagoans John Cusak and Bill Murray are there a few times every year. Well there is a few. Sorry don't know of any Indian Jewelry stores. But i would like to know. Well enjoy where ever you go!

Best place for hot dogs? Downtown either Goldcoast or Portillos. For the best try Hot Doug's on north California. Pizza? Downtown Pizano's at 61 east Madison. You can always try the norms like Giordano's or Gino's, but I think Pizano's is the best in town. Historical or haunted places? Maybe check out Old Town and Lincoln Park - They're both easily accessable from downtown on the #22 or #36 buses that run north along Dearborn. Old Town has a bunch of historic markers about the neighborhood along Wells , and theres a ton of restaurants and shops there as well. The Chicago History Museum is in Lincoln Park at North and Wells, and you can get some really good pizza at Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinders, which is right across the street from the site of the St. Valentines Day Massacre which is now an old folks home. You can get all of the addresses from the front desk or concierge.
