What does a romantic weekend in Chicago consist of?

  • My husband is coming home on leave and we'd love to take a weekend trip to Chicago. I've never been there for a romantic, leisure trip- does anyone have any suggestions of where to go/what to do? Or sexy hotel tips? I'd love some help.

  • Answer:

Chicago is a town of many faces and you can pick and choose according to your mood. Some of my favorites are below. Hotels: (while these may not be in the top 10, they are reasonably priced for downtown hotels and offer a good blend of romance, history and value) Drake - grand old lady well known in Chicago. Classic historical rooms with two well known restaurants on site and a fabulous martini! Hilton across from Buckingham Fountain - my personal favorite. When you make your reservation, tell them it is a special occasion and you may find you have been given a complementary upgrade. (We did.) Make sure to sign up for the Hilton Honors Program before you go as that will increase your chances of the upgrade. You also get private check in lines and your own concierge. It's near the theater district, there's a liquor store a block away and you are right across from Grant Park. If you are lucky or book right, you may end up with a suite (the JR suites are plenty spacious) that looks out onto the lake and the park. Buckingham Fountain is a must. It is unmistakably Chicago and on a bright sunny summer day is irresistibly romantic. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy relaxing in front of the water or meander closer to the lake and picnic there. Signature Room on the 95th and 96th Floors of the John Hancock Building - A Chicago icon with a view comparable to the Sears Tower with no children running around and no lines. If you are on a budget or are looking for skyline views during the day, take a lunch break with their lunch buffet. At only $18 per person, it is a local secret. Wonderfully romantic and historical setting with cuisine by renowned chefs. Dinners are very dressy and phenomenal but pricey. Chicago Art Institute - meander through the world class exhibits hand-in-hand and treat your senses to some of the best art this side of Paris. Enjoy Picasso, Monet, Dali, Cassatt and the little known Thorne Miniature Rooms. They also have a deep collection of Turner etchings, watercolors and sketches. Navy Pier - The Ferris Wheel is a must do on a summer evening. If you time your visit right, you can catch the fireworks while you are there. Also, hidden in the basement, is a wonderful collection of stained glass. Nice and cool and not very crowded even on the warmest of summer days, it is one of our favorite places to visit. Trolley Rides - free trolley travel from Navy Pier to various points in downtown. Save yourself some $$ and cuddle in the back of the trolley while you travel without worrying about the traffic. Odyssey Dinner Cruises - Take a lunch, sunset or dinner cruise on the lake. Enough said. Wrigley Field - What could be more Chicago than seeing the Cubs in what is shaping up to be a great season? Share a bad beer, great hot dog and root for the team hoping to break a 100 year old curse. It's historic and it's fun. We usually play a game when we are there with our kids: every fly ball out gets a kiss. (Really embarrasses our kids which makes it even more fun!) Browse through Millennium Park. Walk hand in hand through Lincoln Park Zoo or take a trip on Metra out to Brookfield Zoo. Eat an ice cream cone while visiting with the animals. Chicago can be as active or as laid back as you want it to be. Many spas offer couples massages and packages to help relax. Enjoy your time together!

Oh ok well lets start at hotels The best hotel I have stayed at is the Hotel Monoco downtown on Wacker and Wabash! it has an amazing veiw of the city for cheap! and the beds and the rooms are clean and comfertable plus there are great restraunts everywhere! Ok now for activitys nothing is better then taking a little stroll on navey peir it might be a little crowded but you should go on the ferris wheel and enjoy the veiw at the top while sharing a romantic kiss :) another thing that is great would be to go to one of my favorite restraunts in Downtown Chicago its on Dearborn st. Its called Bellos I think its an Italian restraunt food and service is sooooo good or you could look up boat rides that you can take you can go to a museum like the Feild Museum Or Science and Industry! I hope this helped GOOD LUCK!!!

My husband and I like to go to the lake and just sit by the water at night. It's a nice way to end the evening. Also, there's a restaurant called Aria that we like to got to for special occasions. It's in the Fairmont hotel. We typically don't like hotel restaurants, but we like Aria because it's usually pretty quiet and the food is good. It's kind of pricey though.

I will honestly say that whenever I think of romance I think of Navy Pier then, I think of Buckingham Fountain. I've been single for a long time here in Chicago and I always get jealous seeing couples hugged up looking at the water walking slowly. This would be at night also. They have those fireworks on Wednesdays and Saturdays and it's so beautiful. There are people walking around to take your picture and it's really a nice keepsake. Do this! You'll have fun and be like teenagers again!

Honestly I would tell you that just having your husband home would be a fun and romantic time...you really don't have to do anything special. I would just prefer to go out to a nice dinner at a restaurant and have a bottle of champagne, rose petals on the bed, and maybe fresh whipped cream and strawberries. Just enjoy each other and the time you have together...I wouldn't worry about making plans.
