Is Roseland neighborhood in Chicago a safe neighborhood?

Where is a safe chicago neighborhood?

• im moving to chicago in about 5 weeks. Im 24 years old and will be moving for work. I was looking into moving to the wicker park/bucktown area. Im hispanic and would like to preferably in a hispanic, safe, and nice neighborhood (where i can park my car safely). Ive hear pilsen is a hispanic neighborhood, but i also read that it's a dangerous neighborhood. Can someone please recommend a place that has a lot of things to do like bars, coffee shops, stores, young hispanic people in there mid or late 20's. I currently live in the san fernando valley in california and when i read reviews about my neighborhood, they are usually bad one about crime and violence, yet i've lived comfortably there for the last 15 years. So I know sometimes reviews tend to exagerate. Can someone that lives there, or has lived in chicago recently please give me advice, it would be very helpful since i am very excited about my move but also very nervous. Thanks in advance ;)

  Move to Bucktown/Wicker Park and find a nice apartment. It's a nice safe area with plenty to do for your age and easy access to safe public transportation. Once you're settled in, explore Pilsen. It's the most Hispanic neighborhood in Chicago but it is high crime and I wouldn't recommend that you live there. But maybe you'll find that you're comfortable with it. I don't know. Nearly every neighborhood in Southern California (Especially L.A. & San Diego) has a high number of Hispanics, so it's hard to compare. Chicago has a very different ethnic make-up. You'll find that Pilsen is the most Hispanic area and then there's other neighborhoods that are Russian, Polish, Irish, Chinese etc. Bucktown/Wicker Park used to be a mix of artists and has become more upscale and gentrified. But there's a broad mix of people and it's young with loads of bars, shops & restaurants. Live in a a neighborhood like that and get to know Chicago. You can always move if you find a neighborhood you like better. People in the Midwest are super friendly and most are from the area or nearby (Indiana, Wisconsin, etc). They'll be happy to help you! If you're from Southern CA, be ready for some real extreme weather. It doesn't matter how you look in the winter in Chicago... just dress warm!
