Why is New York so popular, When Chicago is much nicer City to live in ?

Chicago has EVERYTHING. I'm originally from Southern California, and I will always like it a bit more than Chicago, but Chicago feels like an actual city, compared to LA that feels too suburban. Chicago has both which is awesome. New York is extremely dirty, I agree with you. I don't like New York as much either, it doesn't feel American to me, too many tourists, as well, and as far as art and music goes, Chicago will always have more too offer, especially for musicians, Every major artist finds Chicago to be the best place to perform here in the US, and the most visited art galleries are actually in Chicago. If you want to have this American feel, do move to Chicago. It is a great place as well whether you're young or old. New York City is popular because of it's commercial industry, linked to the media. It's a rich city, they have a lot of money, also the most expensive city. Trust me, even Scottsdale, Arizona is a much more beautiful place to live in than NYC. The Architecture is also way more interesting here in Chicago than in New York, it looks very unique and is super recognizable. The Parks are amazing, i agree as well, especially during summertime, you have so much space. In case NoExCuses posts an answer, don't bother reading it, she claims to live in Chicago, and hate it the same time, and is also from new york 'apparently'. She's too unrealistic with her answers, and exaggerates too much about how terrible this city is.

i spoke to a New Yorker last summer and he told me that even though Chicago is much better than NY and that NY is really just an overcrowded ghetto. It is the perception that people have because NY promotes itself as being as this wonderful place when in fact it is not. Chicago on the other hand does not promote it's assets as much, we let the city speak for itself, and judging by the tourists I talk to all of the time, they love Chicago! And many of them had been to NY already and told the same things we all hear time and time again, and that is the NY is dirty, rude, crowded, and really has nothing to offer like they claim to just to get people there to get your money. BTW I love NOEXCUSE: she brings joy to my life everyday by proving that Karma is bringing her what she deserves and that is misery. Every day she shows us how miserable she is, and I am so glad Karma is giving her what she deserves! I Love life!!

I lived in both cities, currently in Chicago and I like Chicago way better. You are right in your comparison to both cities. However, I do miss the fashion in NY. They are amazing. Chicago does not have fashion AT ALL. People are friendlier in Chicago, NY people are mad at the world. I was like that when I lived in NY. I think I've become more pleasant. In NY you truly live a hard life I think that's why people are so nasty. God forbid you look at someone in NY they tell you, what are you looking at. Chicago people do not bother with that nonsense.

I have spent a significant amount of time in both places and honestly I like New York better.

New York is much better in terms of food, attractions, shopping and nightlife. Chicago doesn't have any good food. There are no REAL malls in Chicago. They are all in other parts of Illinois. Dumb people from Chicago 20 stores does not equal mall so stop trying to pass it off as one. New York is more popular because it is very diverse. Anywhere you go you will see all different types of people. In the best neighborhoods you will still see blacks, hispanics, asians, whites, middle easterns and go to the worst neighborhood and still see the same thing. Look at the south side and then the north and what do you see? Hmmmm this tells me Chicago sucks.

i'd have to say it's because of NYC's larger population and it's time square attraction. if nyc had a lower population than chicago, i doubt it would be more popular.
