Private universities in MA which are apt to giving "full ride" scholarships...?
-
I've always heard, "Apply to private universities, because even if you don't have $35,000 laying around, they'll find a way to get you to go there-they'll offer a full ride if you're good enough". But the thing is, I applied to University of San Diego, got in!-but then found out they're only willing to give me $6,000 in scholarships..out of the $35,000 tuition! (Even with my 3.6 GPA and 65 units already completed) Well, my parents do not help me out financially (I usually am the one helping my mom out), and work full time to barely afford rent and bills..and a minuscule amount of savings. So my question is...where ARE these universities who are willing to fork up so much dough in scholarships just for you to go there. I'm looking into all the Massachusetts and Rhode island universities now..because I figure Hey, if I'm not going to go to USD, I might as well go somewhere I've always wanted to live. (The schools I've checked out are Assumption, BC, BU, Bryant, Clark, Endicott, Merrimack, and Providence..and the 2 public ones I checked out are UMass Amherst and Salem State)

Answer:
Harvard's financial aid is phenomenal. Wealthy cream of the crop universities are usually pretty good about that. A 3.6 GPA is certainly quite respectable, but it's not the kind of GPA that causes top private universities to compete for your attendance. Are you a California resident? If so, I'm shocked that UCSD is $35k in state. When I lived there, tuition was in the low 20's for in-state. It's a great school, but not worth $35k/year... If you're strapped for cash, in-state universities are the way to go.

my guess is you have to apply to a school that desperately wants someone with your credentials. Also, what is wrong with going to the state schools in your state? They are a bargain and there is nothing wrong with them. If you study hard at any school there are likely all kinds of honor tracks you can get on
