When is rush hour traffic on 124?

How Bad is Traffic Around Quincy, MA during rush hour? From Quincy to Norwood?Back roads?

  • I was just wondering how bad traffic is around Quincy MA during rush hour? My gf and I are thinking about moving there and my girlfriend works in Norwood, and would have to take 95 to 93 from work. Googlemaps has it as a 20 minute trip, but how long could I expect the average to be during rush hour? Also, would back roads be recommended, or are those too congested to save any time? I have asked this question a few times and have been getting a varied array of responses. Most of the negative responses seem to be from people that aren't from Mass and seem more acclimated to driving in the country side or something. I am wondering if maybe the people who say "driving here is a nightmare" could elaborate a little bit and give some idea of where they are driving and the times. Obviously traffic is going to be bad going to and coming from Boston but my ? is not really about going back and forth to boston.

  • Answer:

It can be bad but it depends what time during rush hour. Starting at 4 pm until about 6-6.30 pm can be bad. With that said it's still doable in about 30-40 mins max. Back roads are maybe better, I think it's 139 or 28 that you can take and may save you some time. I used to drive from Canton to Braintree and I would spend about 30 mins max on the highway, never took the back roads. BTW during rush hour the break down lane can be used for traffic from 3-7 pm and it's a real time saver, as not many drivers use it even then. All in all is not a bad arrangement as your gf doesn't have to drive from Boston. PS: Your question should be from Norwood to Quincy, not vice versa

To be honest, I'd say take the highway. Back roads in Quincy and in Braintree do get jammed w/the lights during rush hour. She'd be going somewhat away from most traffic - her slowest point would be at the merge for 93 and 95. During rush hour it'd be about a half hour (as mentioned above). A thirty minute drive in the Boston area for a commute isn't too bad.
