Has anyone been whale watching in Gloucester, Mass?

  • It is our 1st Anniversary and we would like to go on a whale watch. We have never been before. There are so many tour places to choose from. Any ideas on which one is best to go on? We heard Gloucester tours are better...but that is only here say. We also need a decent priced place to stay. Wanted a jacuzzi in room if possible...but they seem quite pricy, so just neat and clean will do! Any ideas highly appreciated....smile.

You heard right about Gloucester Massachusetts, it is a great place for whale watches in fact it is one of the top five places in the world to go. The best place you can go is on "Seven Seas Whale Watch", which is a great program. I have gone on it five times and have always seen many whales. It is able to guarantee that you see whales because the watch takes you close to two feeding areas for great whales and many other types. This is something that other whale watches cannot compete with. The price is not bad either being 42 dollars per adult for a watch. You can find out more about this on their website though which is http://www.7seas-whalewatch.com/ A great place to stay in Gloucester Massachusetts is Lanes Cove House. It is a great Bed and breakfast that offers its guests amazing rooms with private bathroom and also a view to die for. The prices are reasonable and the food is great. Also very close to shopping and a small beach. Easy access to docks as well for whale watch. The rooms are large and there is ac which you will want if you go during the summer. I have not personally stayed there but a Friend has and they said the service was great the room clean and the people friendly. You can learn more about them by searching their name into Google. Enjoy your anniversary!

I have spent A LOT of time in Gloucester. My best friend's family owns a summer home there and we have been on many a whale watch out of Gloucester Harbor - at least a dozen or so over the last 15 years. We always go on the Cape Ann Whale Watch and sail on the Daunty Fleet (their boats). See the link. They are the BEST! The naturalists are very informative and they know the area really well and can share a lot about the history of Gloucester Harbor as well. They certainly are DAUNTtastic! You wont be disappointed. They also have sighting guarantee so if you do not see any whales, you get a voucher for another trip. However, they have a very impressive reputation for their ability to locate the whales and a high success rate. One of the last trips we went on, we saw over 12 individulas that they can identify using their fluke prints. We saw male whales "spar for dominance". One of the whales was named Sockeye....something that is permanently etched in my mind. I have also been on whale watches out of Boston and you are correct that the ones off of Cape Ann are certainly superior. Unfortunately, because I always stayed with my friend, I an not familiar with lodging so sorry about that. Happy Anniversary and I hope you have a nice Whale Watch! (-:

I went to Gloucester about 4 years ago. It wicked fun. I went on a misty foggy day. If you go, go on a sunny day.

Will try this without sounding biased I'm a born and life long resident of gloucester. All the whale watching companies here are equal they all talk with each other and go to the same area so it's not who's better and would say the price is comparitive. The Yankee fleet and Cape Ann Marina resort can wrap up your stay in one facility. The yankee fleet has two dedicated whale watch boats and several deep sea fishing boats that leave much earlier than the whale watches and of course radio the whales positions back to the base. The marina resort is a little steep but not any differant than any other hotel here during the summer tourist season both these places have web sites. The resort has an indoor pool and jacuzzi and I don't think there is a hotel in gloucester that has an in room jacuzzi. They also have a restaurant onsite and if you choose to walk it is maybe 1 mile to downtown and the harbor and waterfront. So for a complete package this would be mine but all the hotels restaurants and sites are great.
