Having my family move for my high school in Boston, is this a good idea?
-
Currently, we live near the suburbs of Boston. There is a free exam school in Boston which requires you to live in Boston, and the school is one of the top schools in the country, and one of the top feeders to send students to Harvard. You HAVE to live in Boston. Dorchester and Roxbury, those towns count too. I really want to get into that school. It seems selfish to only move so that I can attend that school. My dad works in Cambridge, so that's taken care of, but my mom works at Hingham so its very hard to get to work. My brother and sister have already been acquainted with the school, and it would be hard breaking if they were to move. My friend told me (her family lives in the nicer part of town), that she'd change her address to her family's place in Boston, so maybe she could attend the school too. I don't think that's possible for us. Anyways, I don't like Dorchester or Roxbury, since its full of crime. What is Boston's Chinatown like? We used to live there for one year, but I was so young I forgot about it. Are there are cheap places? Do you recommend any tips? Oh, and the school is called Boston Latin School.

Answer:
Well, the Boston Latin School is one of the best schools there is. Dorchestor has a bad reputation for having crimes and well, probably Boston is the choice. Chinatown is an O.K location. It has the worst sanitary conditions in my opinion and sometimes smells. Chinatown during the night is unsafe, but there are police who patrol the area by foot and by motorcycle at night. I would probably move to Chinatown if I were you, if it is the only way to go to that school.

Well, here are the places that "count": Allston Boston – Back Bay, Downtown, Fenway, North End, South End, West End Brighton Charlestown Dorchester – Codman Square, Fields Corner, Grove Hall, Uphams Corner East Boston Hyde Park - Readville Jamaica Plain Mattapan Roslindale Roxbury Roxbury Crossing South Boston West Roxbury I STRONGLY suggest you go to the school's web site at: http://www.bls.org/podium/default.aspx?t=113645&rc=0 and go through it as residency is not the only hurdle you face. I'd make sure I can meet the other requirements before making the enormous step of moving the whole family.

Where do yougo to schoolnow? Boston's suburbs have some pretty great schools. You could easily move to Dorchester and end up in the Dorchester public schools. FYI, there aresome pretty nice areas of Dorchester, but the schools aren't great.
