Looking for a suburb of Boston. What is Burlington like? How about Norfolk? What other suburbs are nice? ?

I have only been to Boston on vacation. What do I need to be aware of? What about areas like Woburn,Salem or Danvers? Reading? westford? All of the posts here show the normal suburbs like Melrose or waltham. I want to know about the others. Schools and low crime rates are important to me. A safe home town to bring my 4-year-old up in.

North of Boston you will find Salem which is a lovely, waterfront town with a lot of history. Further North are lovely towns like Newbury, Danvers. I think your best bet is to go West of the city. Newton has a very low crime rate and is expensive. Further out are Needham, Wellesley, Natick, Westwood ... all lovely, safe towns. South of the city you will find lovely places like Cohasset, Duxbury, Hingham!
