Why does everyone hate Massachusetts and around New England (Especially New York...)?
-
It seems to me that mostly every person makes it their life-goal to criticize and trash New England (Massachusetts mostly), when they've probably never set a foot in New England. Well, not everyone hates Massachusetts.... Probably 19 percent. Lots of people I know hate New England. (I'm not from Massachusetts, or New England.. I'm just really curious.)

I have lived around the U.S and I have to say people in Ma are refered to as massholes and for good reason. I moved here about 5 years ago, they don't know how to drive, if you are driving slow in a snow storm they pull up on your a ss and honk or flash their high beams. I stopped to help a women last winter who's car went off the road, she was hysterical because people were driving by her and honking their horns. There is even a commercial where a guy shovels out his drive way so a stranger can park their. The slogan then reads ' this is NOT boston". Most of the people walk around with scowls on their face. On the other hand when I lived in Texas and Arizona people are much more friendly, it's ok to wave at a perfect stranger and like the first guy said they are mostly simple country folk who would help a stranger, it's just a life style. Sure there are lots of good people in Mass but not in general. Im moving back to Texas, nothing against Mass, I just prefer to be friendly and not stand off'ish.

I split my time between New England and the west coast, and, as a part time New Englander, I can say it's because they just don't get us. New England is a great place with great people, and if others can't understand or see or appreciate that, then that's their problem. ;)

Massachusetts consistently has one of the lowest annual roadway fatality rates of all 50 states over the past 15 years. That means Massachusetts has the SAFEST roads in the country. Masachusetts drivers are skilled, thats why we drive like we. But i dont like it either. In Massachusetts there is a great deal of motivation and competition to exceed in life: exceed in education, exceed in wealth, exceed to do better than your fellow resident. THIS IS GOOD. This is what America is about. Take a look in rural American communities where after high school, the youth go on to do nothing with their lives but drink and pot it up 7 days a week. Massachusetts is the best state in the country.

beause of the brusque, unfriendly, and generally elitist and snobbish attitude most of them have to those of us in the rest of the country. let's face it, that's where a large percentage of the wealth in the country is located, and they act like it. the men generally feel like women are incapable of making any decisions and everything has to be referred to and approved by the husband with regard to any household decisions. they tend to think those of us here in the south are barefoot redneck beer-swilling dummies when in fact most of us are just mellow, laid back country folk who would give you the shirt off our back to help you if you were in a bind. and more than a few of us are highly educated, high income, professional people. alot of good companies have moved here and transplanted alot of good, educated and cultured people who have assimilated into the country way of life quite nicely. i do business with people from all over the country as a senior manager in aviation, have lived in PA, MA, and NJ in addition to the midwest and west coast........but i am a country boy from SC who now lives, by choice, in NC who came from nothing and made good for myself in spite of myself....so i have a good feel for the personality types and regional cultures of many parts of the country.....on all ends of the income and social spectrums..... and have to say hands down, there's a reason they have garnered the reputation they have in the northeast. not all northeasterners to be sure.....it would be stupid to make generalizations like that......but a much larger percentage than in other places in the country. and it all stems i think from the amount of wealth concentrated there.

Not everyone hates those states. Every state has their good and bad parts about them.

I used to live in MA, western Massachusetts. I was born there and I lived there until I was 22. Moved to CT. It was technically. only down the road about 20 minutes. Now, for the last 2 years I've been living in Tampa. I don't like New England because of the people. A lot of the people there are more harsh, more all about work, and just not friendly. I don't like it because of the weather. Too cold in the winter for me. Fall is pretty much done in middle of October. All the leaves are already off the trees by Halloween. Summer it gets a little warm, but 3 days or more of 90 is s "heat wave". Typically doesn't happen. Bad drivers. I'm not 100% sure of the latest statistic, but last I knew Rhode Island was the #1 for bad drivers and #2 was Massachusetts. I'm happy I left there. I am much happier now than I am in Tampa.
