When is rush hour traffic on 124?

How Bad is Traffic Around Quincy, MA during rush hour? From Quincy to Norwood?Back roads?

  • I was just wondering how bad traffic is around Quincy MA during rush hour? My gf and I are thinking about moving there and my girlfriend works in Norwood, and would have to take 95 to 93 from work. Googlemaps has it as a 20 minute trip, but how long could I expect the average to be during rush hour? Also, would back roads be recommended, or are those too congested to save any time? I have asked this question a few times and have been getting a varied array of responses. Most of the negative responses seem to be from people that aren't from Mass and seem more acclimated to driving in the country side or something. I am wondering if maybe the people who say "driving here is a nightmare" could elaborate a little bit and give some idea of where they are driving and the times. Obviously traffic is going to be bad going to and coming from Boston before and after 8 in the morning and 5 at night respectively.

  • Answer:

Yes I noticed that you have asked this question many times and I was about to write you a harsh chastisement but then I read your acknowledging your multiple inquiries and explaining why. So I will tell you THE COMPLETE ANSWER: It depends where exactly in Quincy you live and where exactly in Norwood she works. If you live in west Quincy and she works near the Canton Street/University Avenue office and industrial area in Norwood the commute could be as little as 12 - 15 minutes; if you live in the Fore River or Wollaston districts of Quincy and she works in west Norwood near to the Walpole line it could be 45 minutes, maybe more. In any case Route 95/128 is the ONLY connecting artery. There are no back roads, except if she is working in the Canton Street/University Ave intersection area she can get off 95/128 at Rte 138, go south toward Canton Center and turn right onto Dedham Street. (She could also cut through the Blue Hills Reservation park from West Quincy to Route 138 but that probably would not at all be a time saver). Other than slowgoing in the city streets of both Quincy and Norwood she would be reverse commuting and therefore would only possibly run into 128/95 congestion at the 93/95/128 confluence (which she would avoid if you lived in West Quincy and she took 93 south in the AM). Now you know!1 :-)
