What's student life at Boston University like?

How is living as a college student in Boston, MA like?

  • I live in Los Angeles, CA and I really want to go to Boston University next fall. I visited two springs ago and I thought it was absolutely beautiful but I wanted to know how the college life in Boston's like, the weather, the housing, etc.

  • Answer:

Weather wise you will see humid summers along with torrential rains, and some freezing winters. (You will need to invest in a good air-conditioner and a nice heavy parka with some boots.) Spring and fall weather are similar except that it rains more in spring. Living in Boston will be pricey, same thing with housing. Many of the apartments around BU still retains it's old Victorian era construction and brickwork. You will want to hunt for housing well in advance before starting school since you will be competing with other students for the same living space. Mass transportation (The locals call it the "T".) is a big highlight around the area and reduces the need to have an automobile. It'll take to most of the areas you will want or need to go to. For your downtime, or when you need to go somewhere to relax, there is a wide range of clubs and restaurants to visit. (Check with BU's Student Life. The places I knew either no longer exist or became something else over the years. :-)) Have you been to Quincy Market yet?

Well!!!! it just so happens that i live in boston!...lol, I personally love living here. The job market is, in my opinion, pretty decent. Employers generally pay better here. The cost of living can be expensive especially if you plan to live in the heart of Boston. I would look to the outside areas of Boston. Such as Somerville(15 minutes away from boston!), Revere (20 minutes) Cambridge (10 minutes), etc. I personally think people here are nice, and you can adjust quickly. I moved here from new york and i love it! Prices for a one bedroom can range from 750 to 900 dollars not including utilities. I would reccomend looking at the potential jobs you could get out here. Pay rate, etc. a good place to look for jobs and even apartments is boston.craigslist.com...ryan if you have any questions, feel free to email me...Good luck and p.s. you'll have a friend here if you decide to move!
