Do leaves change the same color every year?

What is the best time to go back to the New England area to see teh leaves change color this year?

    When I moved to Maine 6 years ago I was told Columbus day was normally a good time, though it really depends on the temperature, last year when the fall was very mild the color was very bland so I think it needs a good cold spell to spectacular!

The middle of October should be good. I've gone twice now at the end of Sept (for my bday) and they haven't started at that point. Everyone tells me I need to wait a few more weeks.

The first week of October is the best. It's really at the start of the season. All of this depends upon how cool the weather has been in September. Oh, if you're planning on staying at hotles 9especially on the Mohawk Trial) book well in advance. Everyone else has the same idea as you that time of year and lodging may be tough to find.

In the north, it's late September, when you go south it's later. In southern New England, it can be as late as the third week in October.
